Noise from shutting engine down
I get that little chirp when shutting down the engine. I have read on forums that this is caused by the Cummins high compression bringing the engine to a dead stop and the belts continue to move slightly before stopping. Anyone else get this? I guess a little belt dressing would correct this. What is the best one to use.=?

I think once you shut the engine down, big pistons and high compression cause the crankshaft speed to rise and fall as the thing bumps past a few compression strokes... An 03 I had chirped a bit at first, but it went away after a week or two.
There is a TSB about installing an over run clutch on the alternator for trucks that chirp on shut down. As I understand it, in addition to stopping the noise it also increases the lifespan of the belt...
Here's a link.

As far as belt dressing goes, I guess in my experience they might solve belt slipping problems for a day or two... and also attract abrasive dust and grit. If under warranty, the dealer should do the over run clutch thing free, so I'd do that.
Good luck, and post back how you come out.

I don't get a chirp on shutdown, but do occasionally get a quick release of air. The noise is akin to disconnecting a short airhose from a compressor. Psssssh. Could this suggest a leaking valve seat, or is it "normal?"

I think what you are talking about is normal, as the pressure in the AC system balances out after the compressor stops. They are set up to run the AC compressor when on defrost, too, to remove humidity.
