I plug mine in and it still had to wait this morning for light to go out (3 deg.) and how long does it take for the motor to heat up this is the first deisel that I have had and it seems to take a really long time in the morning to heat up . but when it is warm it blows lots of heat.

all dodge trucks and cars have great heaters. the prob is hte diesel's take a long time to heat up. drive it easy till you see the temp guage lift off the peg then drive it normal. dont use hight gear, let the motor turn a few RPM's to get it warm quicker.

Just got home and the temp is -18*. I started the truck around 4 this afternoon(-6*) and its been running since. Without plugging it in it started ok, but I sure wouldn't try it any colder. I've got it plugged in for the night now.

The ONLY reason I don't plug mine in unless I have to is because if you plug it in all the time you'll start to notice a three digit number on you electicle bill!

I'm sorry that you are so cheap that your reason for not plugging in your truck at certain times is due to the electricity they use.

My electric bill 3 digits anyway so I'm counting the kw on my meter from my truk being plugged in. I have more important things to worry about.

Cheap Im not cheap, but I'm certainly not wasteful. I just don't feel 40 is cold enough to plug a truck in. End of story. If you think 40 is an arctic blast, plug it in. If I was cheap I wouldn't be driving a cummins.

If the motor is already warm ,why would you need the heater...

What a waste of fuel to have it sit running for 15-20 minutes. If you had a winter front then you only need to wait 2-3 minutes then drive as you will have 65 degree or warmer heat in 2 miles when the outside temp is above zero. Last night when it was -15 below zero ( with wind chill it was about -30) with all the flaps closed I let it set 3-4 minutes at 1000 RPM and drove home about 3 miles and I had 85 degree heat before I ever got home and I was driving between 25 and 55 mph.

One neat feature on the 06 with the Jake Brake is being able to start it, turn the jake on and engage cruise control. In no time at all the engine is at 180` with the cab toasty warm.

NO , I was saying ...if you have it plugged in the motor is warm enough to not need the pre heaters... HOWEVER today mine was plugged in and @ 0* with a 25mph wind ,the pre heaters cycled
