No start unless fuel filter Is removed and reinstalled

I have the same issues with the no start as many others have. The only time I can get this truck going is when I remove the filter and put it back it in. It feels as though it's stuck on when I pull it out. It will start real great for 2 or three days and the problem comes back. I have changed the FCA, the return line ($60.00 from the dealer) and recently I took the Bolt off the Pressure Valve on the fuel rail and turned over the engine and Fuel ran out of the valve. I read post that said that this was evident of a bad Fuel Pressure Valve. Anyone know if this is true? My oil level remains the same so I rule out the injectors at this point (no fuel going into the oil). Why would removing a filter and replacing the same filter temporarily cure a no start?

Last Question does anyone know about a Stainless bolt that takes the place of an assumed bad Fuel Pressure Limiting Valve
Waiting to hear
Thanks
AFM

Go into search and look for capping rail.
What type of fuel pump are you using.
You will need to make sure you have constant
pressure to filter. Your pump could be on its way out.

I have the conversion in tank pump. I have good fuel flow to the filter when I crank to see if the pump is working. I know this because I open the drain valve and barely turn the engine over let the fuel pump run for the designated 25 seconds and fuel rushes out of the drain valve. I will try this search for capping fuel lines. When this thing is running it runs well. It's the start that is the problem.

Yes, it does sound like you have the infamous 03' injector issue but the valve tested bad so that is what I would replace.

Read more about testing the valve properly before you replace it. The way you "tested" it won't tell you anything about the valve's condition.

It sounds like you need to test the injectors.

First of all CBRAHS THANKS FOR YOUR PAST SERVICE TO OUR NATION!

Thanks everyone for your input, I just ordered the Miller tools to test the Valve and the injectors. It still is perplexing to have to take the filter off and reinstall to start this truck, had to do it again this morning.

I do not have the means to measure the rail pressure or the fuel pump pressure. Can a "regular Joe" make these measurements without special tools? The fittings I ordered from Miller's should help, they cost enough.
