No Overdrive or TQ Converter Lockup?????
Here goes, so bear with me............everything worked fine on the truck until the other day just out of the blue. Got in and as I was going down the highway the tranny didnt want to shift into overdrive. Noticed also, that the converter wasnt locking up either. I have a manual switch that forces the lockup and that still works. I can get the tranny to shift into OD when I get up to road speed, shift to neutral, shut the engine down then recrank: shift to OD then it goes in. Starts and shifts thru all gears fine, with no abnormal shift pattern or harshness. Does this evry single time regardless of throttle input or trying to shift manually.
Hope my description is not too hard to follow. Anyone have a clue as to what might be going on??? I know it's something electronic, just dont know if it's and internal or external problem. Also, and this might be completely unrelated, but my overdrive quit working the same day, and the OD dash light doesn't even come on.

same thing happened to me.. First...
go bu a can or two of CONTACT CLEANER at the electronics store of your choice. I went to Home Depot, it was cheaper. Then, pop the hood and on the passenger side firewall you'll find the PCM unit with three wiring harness plugs. These are what your're going to work on.
NEXT...
Disconnect the batteries and pull those connectors off, they have latches so be carefull and do it right...
Spray that contact cleaner on the plug AND the recepticle real good and while it's still wet plug the connector in and unplug it several times. Spray all three that way.
Then:
Spray them one last time real good and let dry completely. Plug back in for the last time and hook up your batteries. Start it up and go test it.
I spent two months and changed other parts trying to find the problem and it was dirty contacts! I have to clean them occassionally every 6-10 months to keep it working properly. What a relief it was to finally find this stupid glitch.
Try this first.. it's cheap. Then if it dont work, go to plan B $$$$

Almost took longer to open the hood than to do this trick, and it worked!!!!! Thank God!!!!! I didn't even clean the contacts. Just pulled them out sprayed a little WD40 on them and worked the plugs back and forth a few times. Will do it correctly later today. Just wanted to see if something so easy would work. Rarely does my luck run this good. I was looking at hours of shop time, lots of $$$$$, and possible internal tranny service to get at the cause of this problem. Even Dave Goerend himself admitted this was furthest from his mind in diagnosing the problem and took serious notes. Also solved my cruise control issue.

You're welcome... Just keep my name in mind when you need some more questions. I've ran into lots of stupid little gremlins and figured out the stupid cheap trick to make them go away. Pass my name along to your friends and even those "BIG SHOTS" that think they know it all. Sometimes it's just cheaper to do the easy fix first and then go to the big buck options.
Glad you fixed your problem... although I'd stay away from the WD-40, sinc it attracts dust and that could be a future issue. Clean and bare is the name of the game.

There is a recall for the connectors on PCM module. If there is corrosion the wiring harness and the module need to be replaced, oh by the way recalls never expire
