No more NV 5600 parts
I recently read on one of the other Dodge sites that there is already a severe shortage of NV 5600 parts due to the New Venture sellout to Magna corp.It seems that if you have an NV 5600 under warranty that breaks and parts can't be found, the dealer will mod the truck with a G56, this sucks. The NV 5600 was a big selling point for me when I bought this truck. I've about had it with Dodge's BS. I guess the only way I'm going to be happy is to sell this truck and find a 94-97 to build the way I want it.

Magna International bought out NuVenture, and I think there will still be drivetrain components and parts available. (I HOPE)

The NV5600 in my 05 just went bad at 5000 miles. I called Dodge the day after my dealer got it out of the truck and they had a brand new NV5600 there next day. This was 2 months ago. The new tranny seems great.

I feel like Dodge is at fault for changing over to the G56 to save a few bucks. I've also sold a 2003 2500 Diesel back to Dodge for paint issues. I then purchased the truck I now have, an 03 Qcab 4WD Cummins. The truck has been in the shop for ball joints, steering gear box replacement, rear end rebuild and then complete axle assy replacement and CP3 pump replacement. Others may be satisfied with there trucks, but maybe they are not looking hard enough to find the real problems that may cost them money after the warranty expires, sure I could have lived with the out of tolerence ball joints, the leaky steering box, leaking CP3 pump and whining rear end, but I refuse to do so for the money I paid for this truck. If I want all of that I'll just buy a 10 yr old used truck for half the money and repair it myself. The truck has 36K miles on it. I believe that $32K is a lot of money and I shouldn't have to put up with poor quality like this, if others want to live with it, it's OK with me, but I do think that Dodge is at fault for the issues I've had.I realize that all brands have issues, but I can honestly say that I wouldn't buy another 3rd Gen.I have a feeling that later down the road these trucks will be a money pit.

Dunno. Sounds like you might not be happy with any vehicle. I work my trucks. I really don't go out of my way to look for problems. Hope it works out for you.

I thought the reason dodge dropped the nv5600 was because of supply problems with new venture. I ordered my truck in nov. 04 and I was told that the nv5600 was on backorder. It was discussed before that instead of using new venture dodge went cheaper and used a in-house tranny. I'm hoping the new company that bought new venture will keep their tradition rolling.

What I understand about the deal is DC controlled and owned most of New Venture. DC went to the G56 to mostly save money, but also shave some weight to help meet tighter EPA regs. Probably like most corporations under ISO 9001, DC relies on "just in time" inventory deliveries from it's suppliers. So there probably weren't many units/parts in the pipeline. DC was New Venture's major, if not only, customer and without them, NV couldn't stay afloat by just selling parts and replacement units. So it is DC's fault that NV is out of the market place, but so goes business. Car makers are forever changing vendors, parts and assemblies based largely on cost. But major changes such as engines, transmissions, axles, etc. happen too, but the manufacturer usually ensures it has enough stock to service it's product for a reasonable amount of time after production changes. A reasonable period of time to me would be the warranty period. More importantly, it's DC's fault if they have not secured enough repair parts and replacement units to cover a reasonable projection of probable warranty claims of the vehicles which are currently still for sale prior to the vendor going under/stopping production.
This business of replaceing failed NV5600s with G56s ain't going to fly. I bought a truck with a 5600 and I don't think I want a G56. Time may prove it to be an adequate transmission, but it hasn't yet. If my 5600 goes out tommorrow, I won't go for a G56. DC will be buying a truck back if it comes to that.
What's next? if DC drops Cummins, will warrantied engines be replaced with a hemi?
