Just got the call from the dealership. The Number 6 injector is bad. Is there a known cause for injectors going bad such as Bad Pumps or anything else that I can have the dealership look at before going to pick up the truck?

i have got a truck here with 6 bad injecters. the guy got 10 gallons of water with his 24 gallons of fuel and it made a mess.$2300.00 for 6 new ones and he is not happy.

ok.....how do you guys know you have bad injectors!!!!!

 

On the first couple injectors on my 04.5 I had rough idle / excessive smoke and poor fuel economy...the last injector to go out pretty much showed me how it was....it filled the crankcase full of fuel and sprayed diesel fuel all underneath the truck (from the crankcase breather tube) all the way to the tailgate.

 

ok, so:

*bad MPG
*Rough idle
*white smoke
*spraying engine compartment

I get white smoke at start-up a little, but I also have a straight pipe, as far as MPG, SUCKS and the bad idle, meaning like the cab starts shaking a little ?? I dont think I have bad idle tho

 

Mine never ran rough it just seemed to lose a bit of power and sounded like it was detonating at the same time. I also checked my oil level prior to taking the truck to the dealership for A/C problems and found my oil level had risen 1/4 inch.

Bad fuel, lack of filtration, poor QC on the injectors. Take your pick. Sometimes the injectors just don't work right, remember they are electronic. The rest of the time the fuel is etching the seats and tips and causing all manner of problems.

 

true they are electronic, but the electronic portion is only opening a spill port. the needle valve in the nozzle is lifted entirely by fuel pressure. if some debris jams the control cartridge open leaving the spill port open, the injector will not close [constent spray]
