I have a 2004 CTD with the 48re transmission. Every now and then, not oftend, 1st gear does not "engage". The truck excellerates slowly from start in 2nd gear. I have found that if I restart the truck it will fix the problem and 1st gear is back and operates properlly. It's almost like I am rebooting the onboard computer or something.

Does anyone know of this situation and is the fix such as a reflash of the onboard comupter? Or am I in big s*** trouble here?

 

had that happen on a 96 gas truck. Sounds like one of the governor pressure solenoids. Happens far too often on these tranny's. Sounds like a trip for some warranty work.

I see you have an 04, if by chance it is out of the 7/70, they are about 100 each I think and really easy to change.
