Angry Nice dealer, gave me too much oil!

Finally took my truck in for the recalls and needed an oil change so I figured why not let them do this one. I get it back, drive it home and then look at the paperwork, should of done it the other way around. Anyway it says 14 quarts of oil for the oil change. Checked the dipstick and sure enough its way past the full line. Call the dealer and their like "well we can siphon the extra out if you want" WHAT??? Isn't it just as bad to be two quarts high as it is to be two quarts low? Going back to the dealer later today, want to know how tough I should be on them for letting this happen.

To much oil leads to too much crankcase pressure. Increased crankcase pressure leads to blown seals. Blown seals leads to oil leaks. Oil leak leads to locked engine. Moral is, ' It is just as bad.' I would definately go back and get it taken care of, and tell them to pay closer attention to what they are doin'.

Mistakes happen. I'd be friendly but firm. You might want to bring your truck back for something else someday.

Maybe it's just me, but how can the "Dealer" put in the wrong amount of oil??!??!

Now you know why you always change your own oil. Just remember to keep a record of the maintenance you perform.

Maybe next time pay him $5 less & see what they say to you.

Angry

I took it back to the dealer and they swore up and down my engine takes 14 quarts. After going back and forth a couple fo times I told them I wanted to see it in writing. Funny how that works isn't it? Then I was told to wait a minute, which turned into 5 minutes and then the service writer tells me your RIGHT! They told me they had been putting 14 quarts in every Cummins they've changed. Incredible, it wasn't a one time thing, they admitted they had been doing it like this on everybodys truck. How can this be. They are a "five star dealer" too! Thanks to all on this site, you are the only true reliable source I have.

That is scary. Sorta tells you that you can be a total farce and be a 5 star dealer. Obvious that they did not read the dipstick after the oil change.

Yep pretty sad that a dealership can't even do a simple thing like change oil right That should tell you loads about what to expect from them in the future.

Buy good tools and do it all yourself

I checked my oil after 500 miles and found it overfilled by a gallon.
I was 600 miles from home. Local dealer was 0 help. Stopped by Autozone, bought a torque wrench and cheap drain pan and drained in their parking lot. Good old dealer new car preperation. Yep reason #5012.
