New Tranny Quirk!

New Tranny Quirk!
Got in the truck a few days ago, on sunday, to drive it from my house to my parents cause I was leaving town for a few days. I got in and let it idle for a few minutes while waiting on a buddy and then proceeded to head out. I noticed that it seemed a little slushy after I got to the end of my drive way and turned onto the gravel road but thought it was just a perception. However, after I had gotten down the road a mile or so I noticed it shifted into od at a low speed going up the hill and lugged the motor. about 3/4 of a mile later I reached the end of the gravel road and turned onto the highway now wondering what in the hades was going on and the truck slipped in first. NOW I'M PI$$ED be cause while I was gone the week before I had left the truck with the dealership to service the tranny and my parents had brought it home. So I figure somebody has done something horrible to my baby and immediate death to all involved is running through my head!! When I checked the tranny fluid the level was fine and it smelled ok and looked clean Now I'm puzzled...so, i get back in the truck put it back in gear and low and behold it moves and acts just like normal on the 2 mile drive back to my house where it has now sat since sunday until atleast tonite and probably until tomorrow. I just don't get it. Sorry this was so long but does anybody have any idea what in the world is/was going on here?.
P.S. the tranny did reach operating temp a little quickly even for it being over 100 that day but it never got over 130* on the digital x-monitor

I can't say for sure what is exactly wrong. But, after 6 transmissions in my '98 until it was done right the last time, sounds like the clutch lining in your torque converter. It doesn't sound so bad, but as soon as all that lining material goes through everything as the fluid circulates, you'll need a complete rebuild kit anyway. Sorry.
I have absolutely no faith in Dodge slushboxes. My '98 has gone through six of them - I don't even drive it hard or tow more than a quad on trailer.
The only thing good about a Dodge automatic, is the case. This is where you can tear out ALL that is OEM and throw in aftermarket stuff like heavy duty clutch packs, shift kits, extra bands, etc. Then run Type "F" (no friction modifiers) tranny fluid.
My transmission is now fixed. The guy that did it gave me the "if you break it, I'll fix it for free" warranty. The only thing is, it took six attempts and about $13000.00 to get it right. It probably still wouldn't be right if I hadn't gotten acquainted with a guy that builds race car transmissions.
SAY NO TO DODGE AUTOS. NOTHING GOOD WILL COME OF THEM. HANDSHAKERS OR NOTHING. It's only a matter of time.

Now my problem has occurred only behind a 360 gas. Can you imagine if it was behind the torque of a Cummins. I'd probably be up to a whole lot more in tranny repair costs.
Just think, if I didn't have to repair trannies and the incurring cost, my line of credit would be paid for, basement would be finished, and there would have still been a little left over for a down payment on a new Cummins.

Ahh if I can nurse it along through the summer I can maybe begin buying some parts here and there and get it built at the end of August with out having to take out a second mortgage on the house that I don't even own . J/K but I really hope that its not to serious yet cause I can't afford the built one I want. I guess I shouldn't have had the tranny serviced and the problem probably would have taken longer to show up Ohh well this just calls for budget redirection to performance this year instead of appearance finalization. Besides they have changed the 48re so much from the 47 that it could very well be in electronics... I hope... anyway it won't take long to find out will it?

My 05' had a similar problem and it turned out to be an electrical short making the truck go into limp mode. Turns out another member had the same problem before me and his dealer was able to locate the problem for him. After I fixed the short on mine I've never had another problem. You might want to PM him (Pearce) for further detail but here is what he sent me from his dealer invoice -
"Diagnose vehicle and found DTC P2769 for TCC control circuit low. Follow flow chart and called Star, locate the YL/LB wire in pin #9 connector 109 chaffing on top of the bellhousing. Insulate and reroute wiring in connector Y1/LB."
If you go on Dodge Bodybuilder.com you can locate the wiring harness in the electrical section.
Good Luck,
