My truck is at the dealer RIGHT NOW for another problem (see "lamop out" thread) . i did not recieve a recall letter in the mail, and i dont have the vin # to use the website to see if there ACTUALLY is a recall on my rig. but see my sig, i have the 48re 3/4 ton truck. is there another way to find out if it applies to my truck? what exactly is the recall? if possible i would like it taken care of while they have it.

thx

This is what I posted on Deiselram.

I just talked to my dealer about recall C44. The service guy told me he just learned about it yesterday and said that coolant is getting into the transmission lines. The fix can be anywhere from fixing a line to replacing the tranny if it got that far along. They will not even have parts till next Tuesday. He looked up my VIN and said it was in the recall. Guess I'll do minimum driving.

Affects 97,000 trucks

How can coolant get into tranmission lines if there's a separate trans cooler, at least with tow package?

I took my truck to the dealer today for a rear axle noise and the C44 recall. The service manager and the mechanic stated that the recall is to replace the rigid tranny line with a new line that includes a flex joint. They said the problem is that vibration can cause a leak. They didn't say anything about the cooler. Which is correct?

I have an appointment Monday to repair the rear axle and install the C44 fix. I'd like to find the whole story before I sign off on the repairs. The Dodge website and helpline didn't offer any assistance.

I had a loose cooler line a while back. I bet they are seeing lots of them and issued a recall.

I already had an appt on Monday and callled to see if my truck has the recall and it does. But they couldnt confirm if they had the right part, said recall called for 2 different parts.

Well see.

I should also state that this seems to be an '03 issue only due to the elimination of the PCM in '04. [/QUOTE]

My 03 has the ECM . Primary purpose of ECM is to control the Diesel engine Fuel system. (Per 03 service manual)

I got my truck back today, if you are going in for the recall about the cooler lines then they'll check the cooler for flow.. i think that they have limits on them, my truck was stuck there over night because they had to get the cooler for it. if you go in for the cooler line recall you might want to take in consideration the time it might take for them to get the cooler as well.

the tech explained that the cooler bieng "clogged" could result in the torque converter not locking up.

just so you know.

Looks like I am part of this as well. Made an appointment with the dealer for Monday. They stated they would need the truck for the entire day.

Just checked my vin on the link on DF5152's post and I'm due for the cooler line and the PCM corrosion problem recalls. Did't get any letter but the date on the recalls is 2/16 so there should be a letter in the mail. I will be calling the dealer on Monday. Thanks for the heads up.

I've repaired two trucks that the recall was basically made for. Vibration from the solid line causes the heat exchanger to crack internally and fills the cooling system with trans fluid. Then when you stop to see what the hell is causing this huge mess down the side of your truck psi in the cooling system can push coolant into your trans. Neat huh!!
