new engine
Well if you have read any of my posts since i got the 03 you know its been a P.O.S. from day one . The latest round has been a rough idle / vibration .The dealer has had the truck 42 days now and today they finally figured it out 30 % leakage past cyl # 6 intake valve. :'( :'( :'(.So a new engine is on its way .Will be next week before its here so probally wont be done for two weeks.I have already proceded with the lemon law paper work . Dc hasnt responded at all , they have been horrible through the whole thing. When this is all done i will most likely go back to chevy. I dont think the new cummins is a very well built unit at all > >

I went through two Fords before moving to the Dodge. I was not happy with any of the Ford people around and there customer service is a joke >. I have had my Dodge in the shop 1 time and so far I am real happy with it and the service I have receved. Nothing as bad as your problem though.
Sorry to hear about your trouble but you can get a lemon on any thing. Hope you get your problems solved.

I thought of doing the same. Both dealers lied & jerked me around.
I came to my senses when I figured I could more than double stock hp & torque & not break anything & have fun doing it. Can't on the others, especially for the $ it takes on the Cummins.

Re:new engine
deje, I suspect that it has just been your misfortune to end up with a lousy dealer. There are a lot more in your area so maybe even if it is out your of way you can try another one. Please don't give up on the CTD yet. I am predicting that once you get your new engine that you will be happy. Sure, not 100% of new vehicles are perfect 100% of the time and in this case unfortunately you ended up with the short straw. Perhaps you can go to another dealer, talk to the owner of the dealership and tell him your problems. Ask him if he wants you as a customer and if he prepared to make you a happy Dodge owner. Stick with it (and CTD) and I am sure you will be just fine. In due course your problems will be just distant memories and you will be bragging about your truck like everybody else here.

Well, The Chevy isn't too bad. We had the complete fuel system replaced at ~70K miles. From, fuel filter, to injectors.
It does make some good power with a Hot Juice, and a 85HP Predator, Straight pipe, and AFE Filter.
Our Cummins' have been good. Both are over 120K, I blew the motor in my '98.5 Too hot, too long, probably cracked the block. I guess pulling a loaded 50' car hauler up a steep mountain, and 1600*+ for 1-2 minutes didn't help it any.
The other one, I bought used, but it has been running a 12 second 1/4 mile for a long while,, about 2 years, and it's about to get faster.
I know, If the Chevy was worked as hard, and as long as the other two Cummins have been worked,, it wouldn't hold up.
Not to mention the mileage... 7-17MPG with the 'Max, and 10-20MPG with the Cummins. (My Driving style is anywhere between John Denver, and KISS.)

I still beleive that cummins makes the best engine . But when DC makes you jump through hoop after hoop when its easy to see that you have a lemon it leaves a bad taste in my mouth .Why should i reward horrible customer service with another dodge truck .They have had the truck two days to one of mine and im about ready to mail off my third truck payment. I havent had the truck one month total now .How sick is that. Mine is not the only one .I Know of four engines gone bad.And have heard of alot of valve isues as well.Far less than the 6.0 ford but not good still

Yes it is a real drag about your truck and I would be hopping mad if it were my truck. But I'm gonna warn ya if you talk the talk then walk the walk. Which "other" 4 engines have gone bad?? Sorry to be a doubter but unless you come up with more than "a friend of a friend" stuff I will have doubts. Have not seen anything on these message boards. Too bad your CTD did not work for you. I totally agree if the company does not stand behind their product to move on. I was with Ford for years. Now I drive a Dodge. Best of luck.

Re:new engine
spots, On one of my previos posts there was a picture provided from another member of his boss truck at the dealer having the engine replaced . The dealer where my truck is has admitted that this is the second one they have had to do . The fourth one i heard about from my snap on dealer .There is a dodge dealer 5 miles from my work thats on his route as well as my shop . I have no reason to doubt him as i have no reason to lie. This is my third cummins and imho the new engines arent as well built yet. as for walking the walk all day long man im not a basher only relaying my experiences with my 03.

Re:new engine
I quit drivin chevies for this very reason. Couldn't keep em runnin and the service was horrid.
I firmly believe for every dodge lover there is a ford or chevy guy that is sayin the same thing about dodge. In actual fact the automobiles we are building are so bad, when compared to a Honda for example, that dodge or chevy or ford should be hog tied for the swindle job they have pulled over on the public.
But, we keep buyin em. I really think most guys, including myself are loyal to dodge, only for the CTD. If it wasn't for that, I may not be drivin a dodge. I know some guys have had problems with the new motor. But overall, I believe it has been a major success.

Re:new engine
I did not want to get in this one but just couldn't walk away. My dad bought a brand new oldsmobile back in 88. The tranny was overfilled by the dealer and we broke down on a trip. They replaced it and we never had problems again. I had a toyota camry(new) and it was full of little electrical problems that took me months to get ironed out. After getting them all fixed it ran forever with no problems. My aunt suggie had a Nissan maxima that just blew a piston one day and without any warning. Replaced the motor and it was a dream car. Of course she had to deal with all the dealers accusations that she had done something wrong or failed to do the maintenance, etc. Great car for years after. I am a sailor and no doubt a happy sailor is a ........ sailor! Why do I mention that? Well after 16 years of active duty and being stationed with tens of thousands of sailors. I have heard every horror story and car company bashing scenario you can think of and it boils down to a couple of things. You can get a winner or a loser from any of the car companies. You can get great or terrible service from any of them and depending on Murphy's law you'll be smiling or crying. I have no doubt that the front ends of a chevy would last just as long as the others or ford's electrical problems would be gone or whatever other car sterotype you can come up with. If you just get past the nightmare and then take care of your vehicle, I think you'll be really happy. Make your mind up too get past this and then make your next vehicle hoice but just don't blanket statement the entire lot. It is knee jerk reaction to your currrent displeasure, and yes we all do that. It is as normal as having an opinion that differs form your neighbors. Noone should take it personal and you shouldn't press it either. We all have to take the good with the bad eventually, right? I can keep going but feel my point is made and yes it is mine and noone has to agree with it or share it. We can debate this one til the cows come home and it still wont change the fact that you got a lemon but look at the numbers and figure the odds that it will happen to you again! I think you stand a great cahnce of never going through this again. We can hope anyway. God bless and good luck to yuh. I love My CTD and hope you will give yours a chance.

Re:new engine
This thread makes me think....the big 3 american companies really do have POS cars and trucks...quality wise.... Yes i love my new truck. i think i like it because of the cummins plus how beefy the components are (drivetrain) but for example, how DC trys to make everything to bar minumum just to make more money...WHAT A JOKE......
I really hope when CAT and mitsubishi release the new truck they are making it will look good, have solid front axle, have very strong driveline, have good paint quality >. Then i will have to switch over to the jap company. Sorry to say but our cars and trucks are nearly what they used to be... Now are cars are garbage and the jap cars are superior......THATS SAD
