New Dodge...

Hi all new here with a new to me '03 Dodge 3500 Cummins. This is my first diesel and would like to know what would be good check up maintenance I should do. It has 60k miles on it and don’t know how it was maintained.

What would be a good list of things to checkup on to make sure it is running properly?

Thank you.

If it's a Auto tranny, change oil and filter in it.

Thanks Dan, I got that covered already, it is an Auto. How about the engine, that’s what worries me most since it’s my first. I already got some Amsoil for it, and an Amsoil air filter, what else should be checked?

First off, welcome to DTR! It's the best CTD site, IMO.....

Not to be rude by any means, but you should be posting in the 3rd Generation forums........03 and later Dodges are considered 3rd gen........the common rail 24v engines on the 03 and later trucks differ significantly from the 2nd gen 24v's........If you post on those forums you will more directly access the guys with the most knowledge on your truck.

Don't forget to fill out your sig as it helps others help you better......

Congratulations on your new CTD!

Good advise CTD!
Chef: Not a bad idea to go into a reputable Diesel shop and have them do a once over( check inj pump & lift pump presures, ect) Then maybee talk about an upgrade or 2. It's hard to beleive how much Cummins has these things turned down(stock). Even stock HP being over 300 and torq over 600, there is way more potential sitting there and the mods are extremely easy to install and relatively cheap compared to gas mods.
Good luck and BTW: Welcome to the best Forum anywhere!!!

Ah sorry about that it shows how little I know. I thought that because I did not have the HO engine mine was not the new CR. Now I know. Hopefully the Moderator will move my post.

Yea I been reading other sites and this is the best one I found. Thanks for the welcome!

I am not interested in upgrades, yet, except for the FASS. I guess I will take it to a mechanic; I hate to do that since I have done all the maintenance/repairs on my gassers my self.

Maybe a good book to complement the shop manual? (got it already)
