new 06' w/ unsteady temp gauge, normal?

my new 06' ram 2500 ctd auto now has about 1400 miles on it. i have been noticing the temp gauge moving alot when the engine is under load. usually the needle will sit a little below the 200 mark but when i get on the throttle for more than a second and put any kind of load on the engine, the needle will move up to just above the 200 mark within a second or two and stay there for a couple seconds after taking load off the engine. it does this weather im towing or not. the current air temp here in MD is about '45 F and getting down into the low '30s at night. is this normal or is it running a little hot under load? truck is all stock, i dont have any gauges to monitor egt or boost. im guessing the cylinder pressure is getting a little to high and so are the egts. if so, what can be done about it other than monitoring egt. and is there a way to bleed the cooling system on these engines just in case there is some air caught in the system? thanks in advance.

When it reaches the too hot line?

Seriously though, sounds like normal operation for a Cummins. Making (and using) all that power produces a lot of heat so the gauge will move slightly depending on the conditions/load. Not like a gasser where the needle never moves no matter what you do.

Keep fluid in the overflow tank at the recomended levels and it's self bleeding (purging).
