Need a prediction/diagnosis
Yesterday, I was driving home and my truck started making a strange sound. I first thought it was coming from the fan area. It became louder, but would come and go with different throttle positions. The truck was driving fine, no issues at all other than the noise. I called the dealership, and drove it in, about a 15 mile drive. I pulled in the parking lot, and the tech came out to listen, then the truck got really loud, we heard a pop and then it sounded like some chunk of metal broke loose and the truck shut off. The tech first though it was an issue with a bearing in the pulley. He said he'd check it out and I left.
I got a call later, and they said they think it is the transmission, because the truck wouldn't move. It still runs fine. They said they think it might be a broken input shaft. I do have a Suncoast VB and TC, and I run Smarty Jr on level 2. I have not been hard on it or towing heavy. Something just let go. When I upgraded the tranny a few years ago, it was pretty much accepted that I didn't need billet shafts, ect unless I was going to be hard on it. That opinion seems to have changed since then from what I've read.
Do you guys have any similar experience? Do you think it's the input shaft? What am I looking at as far as a repair is concerned? ANY insight you can give before I have to make a decision would greatly be appreciated. I'm a little bummed out today.

Well, a broken flex plate and the bolts are sheared off the Torque converter. Now am at the crossroads. Do I save the money and just replace the stuff with OEM or do I spend a lot to get the good stuff and hope this doesn't happen again, knowing it probably will.

I had the Sun Coast TC for 3, maybe 4 years. I looked on their website and it looks as if they only have a 2 year warranty. I can't remember when I bought it, any warranties, or where my receipt is at. I figure I'm just out of that money.
I just decided to call DTT and ordered a new super single disk billet TC and and billet flex plate. It was not much more than OEM.
I can't say if the Sun Coast TC was defective or if something else caused it. I had it in there approx. 35K miles without an issue. I don't know enough about the workings of transmissions to make that call. All I know is that I need my truck fixed, and I decided to go with good, but not great, parts.
DTT said they would take ANY 48re TC as the core if I wanted to keep my Sun Coast. I can't really think of any reason to keep it though. It just sucks to send such a nice TC back as a core.
