The timing doesn't cool anything down it just puts more heat into the cooling system and heat soaks the piston rather than spit it out the exhaust. X amount of fuel still gives Y BTU's, we just can't measure it when it is in the cylinder too long.
Good to know. Wish the orig owner would have bought the Smarty instead of the BD, but it came with the truck ("free" I guess you could say), so it's good enough. I don't tow heavy and the BD makes it get up and go just fine. Fuel Mileage aint bad either.

I've heard good things about the BD.

I got the Smarty because they say it can't be detected after it is removed....

Oh I know SOMEONE will say ANY programmer can be detected, but mine can't. I bought the special cloaking device with it.... Like the Klingons use...

After its warmed up, cruising on flat interstate at 70 it holds between high 600's and low 700's. (start up temps are with the exhaust brake on, also.)

I've been getting black smoke right on start up (cold start only), and have been trying to isolate the facts..but started second guessing myslef when I started looiking at the EGT's. It doesn't seem like leakdown at this time - no fuel in the oil, no white smoke at all, and no rough idle. Smarty is now on level 3, XZillaraider is off. Air filter has been cleaned. Power does not seem to be up to snuff.......but that could be in my mind also.
sound normal i have the trinity and it is about 400 at idle and goes to about 600 unless i have my foot in it and can get as high as 1350

In the small airplanes I fly (gas powered) we increase fuel to cool the EGT's. That's how we set the fuel/air ratio, 50 degrees lean of peak.
