need advice on 2006 3500 dually

I am looking at a 2006 3500 quad cab dually. 40k miles. completely stock, one owner. anything in particular about this model year I should check? I have searched the forums but am thinking about buying this in the next few days and figured I would get a quicker answer by just asking the people who know.

thanks

I have had some trouble out of my 06 But i think thats just my bad luck. From what i have read the 06 is a pretty good year. I heard someone say onetime they eat ac compressors. I put one on mine at 100k but thats not to bad. The blend door issue and the recir door thing in the hvac. I have been struck by the recir door bug, i just ripped my out and forgot about it. Ifs its a manual go for it.

its an auto. Is this an ok tranny? I know some previous ones were not the most desireable. I will only be towing with it occassionally.

I cannot tell you anything about the suto tranny, but my 2006 has been a dependable good running truck. Outside of a few issues in the beginning that were taken care of by the warranty, my truck has performed excellently. I get 17-18 mpg running empty, and 15-16 mpg towing 18K - 22K loads.

I did have the hvac recirc door problem, it was repaired, no problems since. The AC cools down the cab in a few minutes of operation in our 100*+ temps here in the desert SW.

No complaints whatsoever, would but another 2006 in a heartbeat.

06 and 07 IMO were the best years for the 48re. One of those reasons is because you get buttons for both Tow/Haul mode, and Overdrive off. On previous MY's you could only have one of the other. I have had great experience with my 2006. Only gripe I've are that the seats aren't as comfortable as the 04', and the one-piece curved gas pedal annoys the h@ll out of me. Other than stuff it's been great.

There are some others if you do a search. Oh Yea, the #4 injection line cracking. Specific to 06. Check out the retainers. Make sure they are tight. Could not find my link.
