Near Turbo Failure..

"I have no idea how this happened as I've only owned my truck for two weeks."
Talk to the person you got the truck from... I bet HE/SHE knows what happened. I would ask for the $ to fix it or give it back. If it ingested an air box full of garbage (mouse nest) or he was running it w/o an air cleaner to see how it ran knowing he was going to sell it you could have a short lived motor. Sand blasted valves and cylinder walls. 500,000 miles or more of wear in 20 minutes. ... regardless something BAD happened! It made a lot of noise when it happened too. (by the looks of it) Broken drill bit from a pyro install gone bad?
IMHO it should NOT be your problem. open a can of whoop *** Get a lawyer if you have to.
Now if it was at Auction maybe you can't do much...

The waste gate on the 04 is mechanical and is electronic on the 05.
You may have to make sure you move the waste gate hardware between them (guessing). I haven't tried this, but I'm sure someone here can explain. Hoset has a web page ( I think www.holset.com) with service manuals on line. Maybe some help there. Good luck and let us know what you did.

I would like to thank everyone for their advice and comments.
I especially would like to thank PourinDiesel for walking me through the modifications necessary to making a 05 Turbo work on my 03-04 engine, it’s actually not that hard or complicated.
I will post a detailed pictured summary of the involved steps to making this happen. My goal is to make the installation as clean and un-traceable as possible.
I was fortunate enough to be able to pick up a used turbo, with 4K miles on it for 400 bucks shipped to my house, it will arrive tomorrow.
To answer some of your questions why I can not go after the previous owner, since I’ve only owned this truck for two weeks. The answer is that I bought this truck out of Missouri, and I live in Canada. Since all the payment and registration paperwork has already gone through, I don’t have any leverage to bargain with. Plus all this legal stuff is a little hard to conduct over the border.
I figured if I can get this fixed for around 400 bucks, I’m ok. The truck did drive for 800 miles on the highway to get back home without blowing up, so my thoughts are once I get the turbo replaced, I’m fine. The only way I found this is because i was installing my AFE intake.
Thanks to all.
