my vibration
i have had the steering wheel viberation for some time now but today it seems to have gotten worse to the point i need to take it to the dealer
however my vibration is not in the 2200 rpm range as most others have posted
my vibration is at 1700 rpm or at 60-65 mph
as soon as it hits 60 mph its just like clockwork its there and as soon as it hits 66 mph it goes away and is smooth
so you think this is the same vibration others are expericing at 2200 rpm
why would mine be at such a lower speed and rpm
i have noticed a roaring sound when it is vibrating between 60-65 and when it hits 66 the roar goes away along with the vibration
its not the fan i know how it sounds could i be hearing the turbo at this speed
th roaring sound sounds like a car with loud mufflers on it
could it be the rearend causing this
its alway had a little noise to it around 50-55 but nothing unbearable
i guess i am looking for ideas to give the dealership or at least a place to start so they do just blow me off as picky
any ideas

I've got the steering wheel vibration at idle and low speeds. I've also got the rear humm. Drove mine today, and my brother's. His has no humm or vibration. He says the vibration is probably an engine mount. He says it is probably a dry, stiff engine mount and thinks I won't even notice it in the warmer months to come. On the other hand he thinks the dodge service boys at my dealership are full of &*(&(* on the rear end hum, and if it keeps up, I will go to his dealer.

Mine went in 4 times for a kazoo like sound at 2,000 RPM which you could swear was in the dash or from the engine compartment, but if you shove the shroud on the column around get it to stop.
I guess they had really torn down the dash and padded everything and spent a lot of time. I mentioned the power steering hose TSB, which they did on the last visit, and it solved the problem. They really worked hard on getting this problem solved, always with a positive and professional attitude.

You guys aren't alone, mine has vibrations also. I had the power steering hose replaced which helped with one vibration but mine does vibrate at idle and about everywhere else as you go through the gears ( not horrible but enough to bother me). When you hit about 70 the noise level goes up a bunch and the whole truck shakes. I'm leaning towards a bad tire or drive shaft out of balance but haven't got the chance to get it in yet. I don't drive it every day and it only has 8,000 miles but over all not impressed at all with the vibrations and would not recommend one, although other than the vibrations the truck seems sound and pulls like a train. Hopefully everyone can get their problems worked out and enjoy their trucks.

vibration at 70 mph
In response to your vibration problem, my 03 4X4 shortbed has the same problem took to the dealer there reponse: Chrysler is aware of the problem and will keep me post when a fix is found. Reading through all the postings I would have to say Chrysler has know since May of last year and have not found fix and would appear not to be looking. Any body have any ideas on how to make them own up to there bad design?

I was hoping to get mine in tomorrow but we just got about 8" of snow so I guess I'll have to wait. I hope I don't get the same reply as you did gway. Now that the new wiz bang 600 is out I'm sure they are on to bigger and better things and would like to leave us hanging. I'm not up on lemon law and buy back stuff but don't they get 3 chances to fix it then you have those options? I've got 1 strike already but I really haven't given them a chance to look at it again so I will hold of on my ranting but if they can't fix it the next time it will be right back in for the third time and then we'll see. There is nothing worse than buying something new and then hating to drive it. gway did you try taking it to another dealer?

I am going to another dealer for a second opinion but idon't have hopes up. keep us informed sportfloor as to what your dealer responds with. I am also going to a diagnostics center that will dyno and anylize the vibration origin I will keep informed.

No problem will definately post what I find out, but may be a little while as we are supposed to get some more snow. I'll be interested to hear what the diagnostic center finds out about yours, hopefully a different dealer will help you out.

Well I have since my last post found that this is a somewhat sporatic vibration. Went to town last night and no vibration, stopped to get fuel and went back the same route and had vibration. Left this morning and no vibration so I pull over and shut the truck off started back up and had vibrations of course they quit by the time I got to the dealer. Took a test drive with the tech and he didn't notice any unusual vibrations and said he couldn't fix it as he didn't feel anything wrong. I asked the assistant service manager ( a nice older lady) if there was anyone there trustworthy that lived a little ways off that could drive it for a few days and see what they found, they agreed so I guess we'll see what happens. Maybe someone will steal it while the dealer has it ( I couldn't get that lucky could I). Will keep everyone updated.

Mine also has the sporatic vibs. Sometimes it rides smooth as glass, then other times it feels like a washboard gravel road. My truck came with after maket wheels from the dealer and the techs found that the clips that hold the rotors in place during assembly interfered/ caused vibs with the aftermarkets. They removed the clips and the aren't as bad but still sporatic. If you find a fix please post. I really like this truck but the vibs are getting to me.

My truck has 32,000 miles on it and never had any vibrations, then all the sudden I had a vibration from 50-60 but only when on the gas, let off and it would go away.
Took it to the dealer and it took them 2 days to find a bad u-joint. They replaced it and it did help very much. But I still have the vibration, but I would say only 1/2 as severe as it use to be. Also t no longer goes away when you let off the gas, some days it feels worse then other. I am betting on another u-joint gone bad some where, just haven't got to getting it checked out yet.

I had a new 2001 Crown Vic patrol car a couple of years ago when I was still with the Sheriff's Dept. Had a heck of a vibration between 80 & 90 mph. Sounded like it was going to fall apart. It would go away over 90 mph.
Ford Dealer checked and replaced several items on it before a factory rep came in and put new windshield wiper arms and blades on. He said these did not have enough tension to maintain their position against the windshield.
It can be one of many things or several causing your problem. I thought about the wiper on the Vicky the other day while I was running my '03 through the touchless car wash here. I watched the wiper blade bouncing against the windshield and humming as it was in the blow dry mode.
The Ford Dealer Rep told me this was not an uncommon thing with the newer models. The oversize windshields being used by manufacturers today require such large wipers to remove the water that they are going to move with the wind and speed. It is also a factor of the degree the windshield is placed at on certain vehicles. This could also be a variable as to weather or not it was a 4x4 or 2wd. There is a definite degree of rake difference between them. This would alter the degree of the windshields air reception.
The windshield is a part of the aerodynamics of the vehicle and the force of air moving across could be obstructed by the wiper arm and blade. I wonder how well the Dodge wiper is protected by the plastic baffle in front of the wipers?
The wipers on the Vicky, you could not tell they were vibrating or see any movement. Jim

For those with windhshield Noise problems.
The winshield noise, KAZOO or sounds like a FLUTE problem, is called a Harmonic In-Balance. Okay, I didn't invent the term, FORD did. I had this problem on a Ford Escort (new body style), Mazda, and also my Nissan Sentra. The problem is wind gets under the windshield molding at highway speeds, can also be when wind is hitting the car from either side vs straight on and is causing the windshield molding to vibrate. The fix is to remove the molding around the windshield and reseal the window. This fix is covered by warranty and most dealerships have the vehicle repaired by local windshield replacement/fix places. WHen I told the Mazda guy how to fix it, I received the Deer in the headlight look...But, They sent it to the windshielf repair shop and they knew what I was talking about....HE HE!
