My Tranny smells burnt any suggestions

The fuel tank vent modification allows you to fill fuel up into the expansion part of your tank. Be warned that on hot days if you fill the tank completely full and then park it right away the tank could spill fuel or burst. This has never happened to anyone on these boards or others that I have read about but it could be a concern. If you drive off some fuel before parking there is no problems.
Heres a link for the vent modification www.diesel-max.com

Still waiting to get the truck back. Holidays aren't the best time to take it in. As far as I know it should be ready as soon as the new cooling line comes in. Not sure what all they have done to it. I will keep you posted.

I hope they do you right and change those friction plates, if the pump pressure failed, so did the drum pressure, and you were smoking the plates, hence the high rpms and burnt smell. It probably wasn't the whole pump , but probably the pressure relief valve in the pump body that failed. If the pump failed, you'd get a loud whining noise that sounds like a supercharger, because the "pump" , is nothing more than a 3inch gear that gets spun by your torque converter, not much to go wrong there, except crack and start whining. That's why I'd be looking at the relief valve on the pump housing.

I got a new:
- pump package
- convertoer
- seal package
- cluth overrunning
- filter valve body
The invoice states the tranny was removed and all clutches and seals were replaced, reconditioned valve body, replaced pump and torque converter, replaced and road tested. Vehicle shifts as designed.
the ride home was nice and stink free. the technician did hear a whine, and now that you mention it i did too, but it grew on me because I remember asking myself if it had always been like that.
I also get 12k mile warranty on work. which makes me feel better knowing my warranty is almost up.
Advisor told me that more should have been done for me originally when the solenoid reg valve was replaced. I will never take it back for anything here in Las Cruces again.
For those of you in the Las Cruces, NM area looking for warranty work. Consider taking you Dodge Diesel to Mack Massey. It was worth it.

I'm a little after the fact but burnt tranny fluid is usually an indication of old fluid with lots of miles on it or a transmission running hot, or a tranny that's slipping. If the oil is not circulating and becoming to hot you can get that burned smell. Either way, the trans is having problems. It shouldn't smell burned especially after it has been changed. I service my trans every 30K nukes (tow a heavy 5er).

I only had 30k on it when all the trouble started. I agree I knew there was something wrong and struggled to find a dealer that would fix it. I tow a 33 ft 5er as well. Now I worry that the problem will return, but will drive it till it does. Then maybe call Goerend as my friend mentioned above.
