Is my trani running too hot.
I just finished my guage install a couple of day's ago. I tapped the cooler hot line. Cruising temp is about 170. While sitting at a average light, it will go to 190. At a long light it climb's to 200. It take's about 1/2 to 1 mile to drop back down. This seem's kinda high to me, but I don't really know. Heck, I'm kinda afraid to hook my trailer up.
What kind of temp's are you guy's running. Thank's.

Thing to remember is that at long lights, is that you do not have the airflow to cool.
The T/C is still spinning, the pump is still pumping, but the airflow is nil.....
Also, that is the HOT line, coming from the trans, to the cooler, so its going to be reading hot.

Ya, I figured it was a liitle hotter than the trani pan probe. But after reading that the fluid boil's at 212*, I thought I was kinda pushing it. I pull 16k plus.
Just wondering what everyone else is running at.

Different tranny, but that's a pretty normal reading for the hot line.
I've had mine peg at 280 a couple times,
winding road, uphill, max speed 25-30, cooled right down after I got lockup and some air moving.

Guys, You aren't pumping much fluid at a standstill. If you are stopped for long use 2nd gear in traffic and you'll stay cool. I never run above 180 towing big hills at 33,000 pounds combined. My pyro is in the pan. The hot line is the one going TO the cooler. I'm more worried about what the tranny is getting for cooling not the coolers. ks

Drive with the truck in tow mode or OD locked out until you can get up to highway speeds, that will allow more RPM's which will circulate the oil better and also allow the transmission to lockup which allows all the oil to go to the cooler instead of dropping back into the oil pan.
