My 70 mph vibe is fixed

Hi all,

I have an 04.5 quadcab 4wd dually auto, and mine had the 70 mph vibration. I took it to the dealer, and at first they were pessimistic about being able to fix it. The diesel tech said he'd dealt with a number of those, and was never really able to get completely rid of the vibration. I had them go ahead and order another front driveshaft. When it came in, they installed it and as far as I'm concerned, the vibration is gone. The service writer said that the person who test drove it after installation did not think it was completely gone, but I think it actually did fix it. I'll put it this way, if there's any left, it's so slight as to be covered up by regular road vibration and the stereo.

If anyone's wondering, the shaft they put on my truck is steel, NOT aluminum.

Not on the 04.5's and earlier. I've read of people finding aluminum front driveshafts under SOME 05's. I was trying to clarify that the replacement shaft installed in my truck was not one of those.

I have a pic of a rear aluminum driveshaft in my gallery at left. It's on an '05 Cummins powered QC. I was almost willing to try an '05 Cummins with the aluminum shaft but after my '03 dissappointment, I was very gun-shy of another. Hopefully by the time I'm ready to try it again, DC will have the 5spd in and no vibrations. Mine was not engine vibes. It vibrated with the engine off at 68mph enough to rattle change in the ashtray. FWIW, the '05 Hemi Ram has a steel two piece shaft and it's smooth as silk. I'm still thinking driveline angles set up like we drive in first gear with our foot to the floor (extremely high torque) cruising down the highway. Engineers...
