Hey Guys,
There is hope!
I will give much better details when I have a little time, (and once I kick butt on a couple of buddies), but here is the short story:
My 2004.5, auto, quad was giving around 17-18 with no real tricks (empty on hwy. without many miles on truck), and I was pretty happy at that, but then I installed a fuel box and besides the substantial power increase, there are other advantages such as eliminating those annoying flat spots, and a BIG increase in
milage. I will follow up with some specifics soon, but I have seen the following so far: 17.7 on a mtn. pass vs. 12.9 w/ box turned off, substantial periods of 22-23 on the overhead (which always comes out being lower than hand calc'ed).

I will report back, but so far, I am absolutely thrilled. The power is fantastic, but the mileage is every bit as pleasing. I will be taking a 3 or 4,000 mi. trip soon, and I honestly believe I will be able to cruise at 70-75 and get close to 650-700 miles per tank.

HaulinBut,
Are those numbers by hand or on over head? The box will give false numbers on the overhead.

Hard to believe those numbers. Not doubting you,but am curious what technolgy is giving you those numbers.

I have noticed that everybody here is talking about MPH. How about next time somebody takes a trip and pulling a fairly heavy load, instead of using the speedometer, use the tach. Keep the cruise speed between 1900 and 2200 RPM and report back the fuel consumption using this method. Don't go over 2200 RPM anywhere.
Anybody want to place bets on what the fuel consumption be or if there will be any change?

My 305 gets 18-19 empty and about 12 pulling a small enclosed or 28 foot gooseneck with a backhoe. Not sure why the little trailer is so resistent going down the road. I have 13k on mine now. That is actual calculation.

Hi again all,
couple of quick answers and thoughts...
My truck is a 4X4, auto, 3.73 gears, stock size tires blown up pretty hard (rides like a brick), and I stand on it hard (nice to have the excuse that you are doing it to seat the rings, but the truth is I just love to hammer it).
I wondered if the box could be messing with the overhead, so I will pay more attention to that.
I leave in the morning for a nice cruise through the mountains, and will hand calc. the results.
I am certainly not a beta tester, but am sharing data with the box builder.
I find that the truck runs smoother for the first few minutes if I have the potentiometer turned down near zero. Full on when cold induces some stumble.
My training is well suited for accurate results and reporting, and I will not overstate the findings. I have extensive experience with data recording.
I have been told that the box gives the best results in the area of 2000 rpm, up to 2500 rpm, and that is what I am seeing. I have run it up to 100 mph, and the accelleration is very impressive. As I think I mentioned, I can't bring myself to nail it from a standstill, but have from 25 or 30, and it just about breaks em loose.
The sound is noticably different as you rotate the ****. The impression is that just maybe the pulse duration is being modified along with the pressure being upped in a manner that does away somewhat with attention to being so nice and quiet, and just goes for performance.
I realize that I am kinda talking out of my butt here, but that is the feeling I get.

I have gauges on backorder (EGT and boost), and am anxious to see what they tell me.
I just checked the airbox gauge, and it is well into the yellow, but the air filter looks like new. Probably gonna need to concider something a little less restrictive.

I am finding the quest for better milage to be almost as addictive as the quest for better performance!

More feedback soon.

So the numbers you are giving are overhead and not hand calculated?

2004.5 3500 4X4 with 2,000 miles on it. Emty on Highway is 17 in town 14.5 to 15.

These figures are not too far off of what I was getting in my 2001 2500 4X4 Duramax which was 18 on Highway and 16 around town.

My Dodge isn't broken in yet and I expect the milage to go up a tad....if not, no big deal, it's a far superior truck and worth the minimal mpg loss.

Of course, this is all based on my style of driving so milage will of course vary.....those guys that were claiming 22 -23 in the duramax are flat out not giving up the whole story......must be coasting down hill.
