Not argueing, but while I can think of several reasons to replace the fuel filter, will someone please explain why it knocks the mileage down? It seems to me that restricting the flow would simply simulate feeding a diesel a bit less. In a gasser, I would be more inclined to think it actually leans down the mix slightly, but we know that is totally different in a diesel, as it is in "full on mode" all the time. Maybe this is why my mileage fell off slightly on a recent 3500 mile trip....or it could be that I was cruising at a higher speed (which of course does bring that on). At 65 mph, I can tickle 20/gal, and I was closer to 18 at 75-80. Thanks.

I was thinking the same thing... I get 14 @ 80. I need to change the fuel filter because I have no idea when it was done last... but I dont see how it could increase fuel efficiency.

I just returned from a nice, long drive - eastern panhandle of WV to Hartford, Connecticut. I put 982.7 miles on the truck, round trip. Filled up the first time at 621 miles on the odo - 30.43 gal for 20.4 mpg. Filled up again when I got home - 16.22 gal for 22.3 mpg. 21.1 mpg for the entire trip. That's stock, empty, cruising at ~ 65 mph with a little stop and go traffic north of NYC both ways.

I was thrilled....especially since my company was paying $.485/mile.

~625 miles per tankful if I go easy on the pedal.

Dodge changes at least a few things on these trucks every year and it usually affects the mileage for the worse.

A firend of mine has an '03 with 555 pound feet of torque. He gets north of 23 mpg.

I'd trade 45 foot pounds for another 5 mpg no problem.

The best I've ever gotten was 835 on one tank. I do have Dave Kelley's tank vent kit which allows you to COMPLETELY fill your tank. Put 37 gallons into my "supposed" 34 gallon tank. That's 22.5 mpg. I regularly get 22 to 23 per the overhead. Whenever I hand calculate my mpg, I get about 1 mpg better than the overhead is showing. MOst claim the overhead shows higher. Mine shows lower.

No, but I never exceed 65. But, then, my truck is one of those little 555s, a short bed 2wd.

I'm at 480 to 520 miles a tank when the light comes on. Usually right around 34 gallons to fill.
