Metal Fuel Filter Cap
My fuel filter cap is extremely tight. I tried to remove it tonight with a wrench and cresent, I can see the nut part start to twist but the base will not break loose. I am concerned that it is going to break. Does anyone make a metal repalcement, I would like to have in hand before I break this one?

Be sure to lube the o-ring on the fuel filter cap before putting it back and tightening it. If that ring is not lubed the cap is much more difficult to take back off next time. The diesel you drained from the canister in order to replace the filter will work. I have also used the 90 weight oil I use to lube my motorcycle's chain. Just dip the o-ring in it completely and then place it on cap and tighten. Over-tightening too can cause what you are experiencing. I can't recall what the torque specs are, but I usually just tighten the cap by hand as tight as I can, then give it another 1/4 to 1/2 turn with the wrench and call it good. Have not had any issues yet in 67K miles, so far. Good luck!

I had to use a cheater bar to get mine off after the dealer got through with it. I was using a shorty ratchet with a 1 & 1/8 socket at first.......I then had to use a 12" cheater bar to get it to loosen.

This would not be the first time I out something on to tight, I would guess that I had 50 FTLBS on it and it was flexing but did not break loose. I called a few local auto parts store and they do not stock them. So I will order one and have in hand before I try again. I did put a little diesel on the o-ring when I put it back together last time.

Anything wrong with putting on an Impact gun/wrench dialed down low...???
I have had better luck with undoing overzealous mechanics with Impacts then Breaker bars...I find breaker bars...break stuff more.

Not enough room to get one on there. Plus I think you could easily break the top off of the cap if you could....
You just have to not overtighten it when putting it on. Just like the oil filter. It's really easy to keep spinning it tighter and tighter but it will be extremely hard to get it off if you do that....
