Manifold Heater Engaging after Crank????
I have noticed that my new 06 when it is cold outside (40deg or below) the Grid Heater Cycles on and off after starting the truck allot. I do not wait on the heater and then start the truck. I just crank her up. It never hesitates to start-----unless the HardStarting 06 G56 Problem arises--------but it cycles on and off like my 01 HO did. I thought that Cummins had made the Grid Heater better?????? My Voltage drops from 14v to 11-12v and then goes back up. Is this normal for the newer 3rd Gens????

Sounds like normal operation to me. Our trucks will start just fine even below freezing without the preheater, but it is programmed to cycle at idle and low speeds to aid in complete combustion and smoke reduction. Regarding the voltage dropping, each grid draws approx. 120 amps of current, which is also as much as the alternator can produce, so this draw is quite noticeable on the gauge.
Not quite sure what you meant about making the grid heater better. In my opinion, they work perfectly. They are reliable, they never fail, and they are FAR better than the starting aids offered on other diesel pickups at this time.

I know that they are a better design than what the competetion uses by far!!! I just thought that Cummins had made a good product better with the newer 3rd Gens!! Thanks for clearing it up for me though.
