Make an '04 as quiet as an '07 engine?
Just curious, can I make a '04 Standard Output (SO, 235hp) engine as quiet as a '07 5.9L?
Not that I have an endless supply of $$, I am curious if this is possible. This would exclude the discussion of using synthetic oil, biodiesel, wvo/svo, 2-stroke oil, engine blankets, or swapping out the engine. Just inquiring about the engine mechanics.

The engine is going to get louder as you put the miles on it. Nothing you can do about that. I put my silencer ring back in my turbo and I run two mufflers on my truck and that definitely makes for a much quieter ride in the cab...
BTW, the 07 truck will also make more engine noise as it gets the miles put on it....

I was thinking the same thing. Somebody posted that the third injection cycle contributes to quieter engine noise, and I don't believe the 04 trucks have it.

Yes very true about the injection cycles,,our cummins shoots fuel 3 times per fireing,,,as i stayted in a diffrent reply,VW TDIs shoot fuel 8 times, and shoot it in an arc patern, the first shot is small, second shot is bigger, third shot is bigger yet and 4th shot is the largest and then the next 4 go smaller each time, and thats why there smooth and quiet,,,,instead of one shot and a big bang like older diesels.

Diesel tech is where it's at, I tells ya.

I did read about their product and I did a forum search. But I was wondering if there was another option, as the full setup would give me a price-point comparison.
Ok. Per the manual, that is the "adjust valve lash clearance" service at 150k ... I need to drive another 30k. It just seems a little bit louder than before, but this is my first diesel and I have to get use to the 'normal life of a diesel' (but nothing like a Gen1 or Gen2).
I wish I had an endless supply .... but I don't unless I win a lottery or two
