Mag-HyTec Rear Diff -Dip Stick Question?

Well-
Installed a new MH rear diff cover on my 11.5 axle. Most everything went well. I installed Amsoil sever gear oil 75W/90. Took about 7.5 quarts. I'll drive 25 milea or so and re-check.

Questions:

When getting ready to torque down the dipstick I noticed that the the o-ring would squeeze down and then the metal threads would bottom out. This was by hand with an allen wrench. I wasn't able to torque to tight (maybe 10-15lbs). I haven't torqued with a torque wrench yet, as I would like to know if it supposed to bottom out like this? The temp sender plug tightend like pipe thread. Is the dip stick pipe thread? If so, it is not tightening, as the the threads are bottoming out before it gets tight on threads. What's up with this dip stick???

Thanks!

Nothing's wrong. The plug does not need to be torqued down to squeeze the oring flat in order to seal. It's specifically designed like that to prevent you from deforming or damaging the sealing o-ring.

why the torque specs?

good to know and makes sense, but.....

why does it state in instrcutions to torque down to 30 ft/lbs?

How tight should I torque then?

Is drain plug the same way? I attempted to tighten and it would NOT tighten to 30 ft/lbs. I did not check to see if it had an o-ring like the dip stick.

I am concerned that dip stick isn't tight enough and if I splashed through some water it may penetrate the diff. Not to mention dirt that can enter.

I wouldn't crank on it too much, those are aluminum pieces. The oring does the sealing. Good 'n snug works for me.

The dipstick should only be finger tight
