Hounddog, I'm with you. Show me some scientific proof of helping and I'd be all for it. My sig has never had anything but motor oil added to fuel with 221K miles, so don't give me the 150,000 badge for using snake oil. Brother has a 12v with 1,260,000 miles and no snake oil. Outlast that one, with your favorite additive. Think of all the money he saved by not purchasing the high value products. It also made it with 15/40 cheap dino oil.
when using a good fuel additive (lucas or LDL), i see a small mpg improvement, better performance, no injector noise, and the engine is just smoother running. if you're convinced that you're not going to be running any in your truck, why did you bother to read the thread and post? FYI- 12v's are a lot more forgiving (compared to CR's), when it comes to what you toss in the fuel tank, and don't have near the injector issues that the CR's have.

I use the Lucas additive every other tank or so. Lately I have used it every tank due to fuel prices. At interstate speeds 65-75 mph I regularly see 2 to 2.5 mpg increase figured with a GPS. Highway speeds, about the same gain. My last interstate calculation figured at 18.4 mpg. Highway speed is right at 21.5. I don't know if the additive is worth its cost, but the truck definitely runs smoother, similar to when I run bio-diesel. My truck is a six speed has,AFE stage 2,MBRP , Toyo MT 35's and 88,000 miles. BTW fuel here in VA. is 4.25 gal. Hope I could be of help.
If anyone knows of a better additive let me know.............

I have used additives before and have come to the conclusion that you don't need them. Just make sure you are getting good fresh fuel. Not all places have the same quality fuel. I get mine from a Chevron Truck stop off the interstate. They get one to two trucks a day for diesel fuel. I get the best mileage out off it and it also has the blue/green tint to it. They are about 3-4 cents higher on the gallon but I don't care. I get good quality clean fuel. As far as the injector rattle due to carbon. Go work that truck and it will clear up good as new.

I use the Lucas in my big rig. It has a 575 Detroit Series 60 and you can tell when you don't have it in the tank. Engine is just rougher all around, at idle especially. Purrs like a kitten when it gets a quart of the Lucas to 100 gallons of fuel. It also gets between 6 and 7.25 mpg depending on the load if you keep it under 65 mph. It's been so long since I haven't run it I don't remember what the mpg's were before.

Wow, at the prices for a gallon some are posting! I knew the sealed gallon I bought off a table at the local flea market was a deal at $10! I use it occasionally. Not so much for smoother running, fuel mileage, etc. It's the lubricity issue with ULSD that has me concerned.

Actually, I've pretty much stopped driving the Ram. Even though I get a consistent 22+ mpg. It's cheaper to drive the hot rod 375 hp Mustang. Premium is only $3.92 and diesel is at $4.23. Mustang just about the same mileage also.

I use Howes, Power service, Diesel power, in every tank. Not all at once obviously. I switch back and forth. For about the last 3 months, I have been using Lucas and I absolutely notice a smoother running truck. Put a little bit between your fingers and rub your fingers together. Feel how much more lubricity is in the Lucas over the others. I still use the others for the cetane boost and antigel, but I have to say I love the Lucas for its lubricity. Try it. Oh, for the best price, check out O'RILEYS. I pay $22 a gallon and it treats 400 gallons.

The $4.23 I mentioned was a couple of days ago. I saw $4.49 yesterday.

Besides, everything is more expensive in SC. I live just outside Nashville, Tennessee. When the Nissan folks who moved here from SC went looking for houses, they had reverse sticker shock. One manager had a 1400 square foot house on a regular city size lot. For what he got for that place he bought a 3000 square foot place sitting on five acres and had money left over.

All,

I can't speak for anyone else but I'm a Lucas man. I now put in approx. 10oz of Lucas on every fill up. I've had such great performance with the Lucas fuel additive that I now only use it exsclusively at every fill up.

I also use Power Service, especially in the winter when driving to cold climate areas but mostly Lucas.

I purchased my truck used with 82K miles on it. I started tracking my MPG's driving highway. I was getting approx. 14.5 MPG and started using Lucas and now I'm getting 17 MPG.

I now have 195K miles on my truck and use Lucas with every tank. I also use Lucas Heavy Duty Oil additive on every oil change. The cost of the Lucas to me is not important when comparing it to the investment I made when purchasing my Dodge Cummins.

I used the Transmission stuff from them to get me by for a couple weeks till I could check out the tranny (it was slipping bad). It looked like snot and was really uncomfortable watching the slime pour out. It worked great, stopped the slipping so I could still drive it. I did not use it again, but I would if I did not have another option.

I was thinking about trying the fuel treatment, but I started a little 2 stroke. It is running really smooth, no real mileage difference.
