Loud screach when shutting off
Ok, I am sure its probably normal and a few people told me it is but I wanted some opinions from you guys. When I shut my truck off, its makes a screach and the truck shakes some. Sometimes its alot worse than others but it always does it. Is this just the high compression and stopping quickly and the belt keeps moving?
My friend has an 03 HO 6spd and his doesn't do that at all but his neighbors 03 does.
Thanks guys

Normal. FWIW, my PSD did this and my 600 did it with the original belt. That one shredded at 5400 miles, and the Mopar replacement that the dealer installed is quiet at shutdown.
No more screech. I guess some belts do it, and others don't.

Yes it is NORMAL. Even says so in the OWNERS manual.
If you leave the A/C on it may squreech even more, what's happening is that with a diesel you kill the fuel coming in and the cylinders cannot recoil from the lack of an exposion in the engine, thus it stops right then and there, however the accessory belt will still be moving tus you get a SQUREEEEEEEEEECH

Thanks guys. Going to take a while to get used to my first diesel. If my race car made some of these noises, I would freak. I love this truck so far. I can't figure out if I am more excited about racing now or being able to tow with a truck like this.
Also, I put some diesel kleen in this tank and the screach sounds louder. Could this be possible becuase of the higher cetane maybe? or amI putting to much thinking into it.
thanks again, you guys make owning a diesel for the first time alot easier.

It used to do it to me also. I have a 2001 though. I changed the belt to a Goodyear Gatoback Belt, which is freakin awesome, seriously. The single most thing people don't do is let their truck cool down for a mintute or two. I swear, if you let your truck cool down, go inside house put up keys get drink real quick come out and turn it off(assuming this is 1 min or so) and shut it down I promise you it won't squeak. You will also save you turbo bearings hey, kill two birds with one stone. Anyways take care everyone. Aaron

I always worry, especially after having gauges in my 2002, about shutting down the truck too early. I wait several minutes prior to shutting off the truck. I don't have gauges and I saw that in my old truck when it was warm out it would take several minutes without a load to get the egt below 300 degrees. I wait now for a couple of minutes and always get the belt noise.
