Looking at a truck without a cat..

Well I am slightly confused I was looking at an 03 3500 at a new car dealership, the truck had a piece of pipe clamped in the place on the cat. My question is do I need a cat on an 03 that came with one from factory in CO? Can a new car dealership even sell a truck without a cat?

03's didn't come with a cat unless it was a California truck.

As earlier stated, no cat on the 03 unless cali. Cat wasn't put on for all 50 until 04.5

Thats exactly what I thought, the only thing throwing me off was it was clearly not a factory piece of pipe. And it was a 305 motor, so there is no way its from cali. Thanks guys
