Not trying to get off topic but since there have been tons of posts about dealers able to see if your truck has been chipped couldn't someone that is looking at a used truck take it to a dealer and have them check to see if a truck you want to buy has been chipped?

Unless it had a number of setups that aren't able to be detected...such as Smarty, Edge Juice with Attitude, any of the pressure boxes...if it WAS bombed and then taken back to stock so that the aftermarket stuff could be sold separately for extra cash, etc...yeah, it's a good idea, but anybody that has some modding experience under their belt could figure out how to avoid things like that if they really needed to get rid of their truck and wanted to potentially screw the next guy in line. I thought LONG and hard about buying a used diesel...after all these past years of modding, chipping, all out BOMBING and ******* these trucks (SOME people), I decided the spend the extra cash and buy new because I didn't want to take the chance on me personally buying a truck, the 3500+ dollar tranny or multi-thousand dollar fuel system going out, them running their scan tool through the truck's computer, finding a past Bully Dog freeze frame in it and voiding my warranty (if there even WAS one), making me pay out of my own pocket and I wasn't even the one that modded the truck...try to prove that to them though...

You may know this stuff and I'm not trying to be condescending.
Check underneath for wet or moist spots, an 06 should be fairly clean. Judge what is leaking, how bad and how hard to fix. Check what oil filter is used, quality filter speaks to his maintenance. Check air filter, relatively clean or filthy, same reason. Check tire wear for alignment issues.
Check very close around engine for soot spots, oil or fluid leaks. Check auto tranny level and smell for burnt. If your ambitious, get under and open the fill plugs on a manual tranny, transfer case and diffs after driving it. Use your finger to check oil condition in each. Check rad, power steering and brake fluid for clean. Check fuel filter for ugly stuff.
Before you start it, check for warm or cold engine. Cold is preferred. Pay attention to smooth start, white exhaust and/or unusual noises, whistles, ticking or worse.
Drive and pay close attention to vibrations, shimmies or shakes other than diesel engine. Auto tranny should shift clean and crisp. Manual should shift smooth with clutch close to top of the stroke. Find a spot to spin the tires (gravel or snow) and switch to 4x4 and check function (that one hurt me before). A couple of feet is all you need. It'll break loose pretty easy and 4x4 will be obvious. Shift on the fly to see if there are surprises.
Check function of all accessories, unusual wear of upolstery or mats, and general truck cleanliness. All speaks to the care he puts into the vehicle.
Any comments like "that's minor..." should go back to them with a "then you fix it.." type response.
All in all, get a good feeling or walk away. If you like it, take it to a mechanic to check further. It may be worth the $100 bucks or so and an honest seller shouldn't object.
Good luck

AND just because it has gauges is really NO reason to assume it has been chipped. Read my sig - no box, no chip, stock engine, peripheral add-ons. I tow a lot, gauges are a must to protect your investment, tells you a lot if/when you might have fueling issues, etc. Truthfully, if/when I go to trade my truck in, all my stuff would be removed and it would be returned to stock.
billies advice is the best, give the truck a good go-over, have them fix anything you see that needs it, or take bucks off so you can. You should also have them change the oil, change the diffs, tranny, xfer case if applicable, new intake filter, fuel filter - a complete service. If the tires have less than a goodly amount of trea, then talk tires or bucks off as well. They will want top blue book, you should get top of the wear items and servicing.

As the Monty Python boys would say...runaway!!, runaway!!
Sorry it wasn't the truck you're looking for. Don't give up, you'll get your "big, bad, Dodge" yet.
