Giving this one a bump... my heater core just took a dive last night big time - it sprung a big leak. Does anyone know if the core can be replaced WITHOUT removing the entire HVAC system and draining the AC and all that?? Man, I hope so....

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news CTD NUT, but the dash and the airbox assemply have to come out of the truck. The AC lines have to be split to do that also.

I just did this two weeks ago because I had to replace a couple of my vent doors.

Once you do it it's actually a pretty easy job, just takes a little bit of time.
I posted a thread about the removal of the dash assembly and the HVAC box in this forum. Have a read through it, i'm pretty sure I got all the steps and made as detailed as possible.
It's title "Heater box removal", I posted it on the 13th.

A second word of advice, change the vent doors while you have the air box out, you'll just have to do this again when one of them breaks.

And have a buddy of yours give you a hand with pulling the dash out through one of the front doors, it's next to impossible for one person.

Argh....yuck You ARE the bearer of bad news. Truthfully, I knew it was coming....I just thought I would try and confirm it. Yes, I will be heeding your advice - I will be changing all the HVAC parts associated with the upgrade that addresses the blend door problem from Dodge while I have the HVAC box out of the truck. I only want to do this once! Thanks for the help.

It's really not that bad of a job, just a lot of simple steps. The dash was made to be removed as a unit, my mistake was trying to remove it piece by piece.

If you read my write up one step I just remembered is to unplug the Airbag computer harnesses before pulling the dash assembly forward and out. They are two plugs located right below the cup holders, on the floor. You see them once you remove the plastic trim piece below the cup holder/ash tray assembly.

You actually only have to unplug the driver's side plug out of the computer, the passenger side plug does not connect to the dash assembly.

If you have any questions pm me.
