Why spend all the time and cash going to South Carolina? Dave Smith sells all their vehicles for $148.50 over invoice. I got mine from Cal Worthington in San Diego for $100.00 over invoice. I can guarentee you can find a similar deal in Cali if you look around.......

Just adding my .02. Check with www.carsdirect.com to check vehicle pricing. This will ensure that you are getting a good deal. They are generally less than invoice.

I am considering buying a new 2500 diesel automatic 4x4 from Steve White motors in North Carolina and I live California. If I fly out and drive it home (2600 miles) would there by any problems breaking it in this way?
Seriously, where are you in Calif? I got mine at invoice in the LA area. Others have done as well or better in other areas of the state. Do some checking before you buy so you don't get any surprises. DMV can be a real PITA.
Good luck,
Neil

Pick the truck up outside of Kommefornia and keep it out for 90 days and you can escape sales tax. The truck will be legally regestered in Ca and $ are in your pocket, not the golden states. The California Franchise Tax Board web site will tell you how. I'm picking mine up at Dave Smith in Kellog and traveling on the savings for a few months. Good Luck.

OK, I better keep shopping until I find a local dealer willing to with me. Thanks to all who responded, a lot of good info here. I am in Sacramento "GO KINGS!!!???" and the large dealer fleet managers don’t want to deal with it. I will talk to the dealers mentioned above and see what I can get. Richard1234, I searched the FTB site, can you provide a link on the tax issue? $2K+ is a BIG deal.
Thanks again for all of the replies, I did not expect the thread to get sidetracked like this, but I am sure glad it did!!!

NJMurvin is right. There is only one engine manufactured for this truck but to register your 600 in CA you absolutely have to have the CARB rating on your emissions sticker. That little sticker is ONLY available in CA and the border states. Why? Don't get me started. Even if you order from OR,AZ,or NV they must order option YCF which is the "right" sticker.
If you don't have that sticker on a brand new truck and try to register it here they will have you remove the vehicle from the state immediately. I picked up my truck from OR last week and they DO CHECK!
Make your own decisions of course but if you factor in the travel, time off, and fuel, I'm sure someone in CA or the border states can come close. I got $1000 under invoice at the time and it was well worth it. Those days are over except Tomeygun but he can't get you a CA truck.

You can try Bruce Golden at Antioch Dodge (Antioch CA). He gave me a good deal, $650 under, and I didn't have to travel. Do your homework and know what you want and know invoice price before you shop.

LB, Did you try Hoblit Haynes in Woodland ? (Right in your neck of the woods, so to speak!)
Grady Glyer / fleet manager ordered me a 3500 at invoice without any BS..... they had a ton of 2500's in stock, I'd be suprised if they wouldn't deal!
Grady seemed like a real upfront guy....knew a lot about the CTD trucks, more than any other salesman I had talked to before or since!
Otherwise like RickE said, I think a couple of people have gotten under invoice at Antioch...not too far away!
( But like someone else said, those deals are getting harder to find... )
I ended up getting mine at Autoworld in Petaluma, invoice minus 3k in rebates. (Just happened to arrive a few weeks before Woodland, otherwise I was happy with Grady & would have gone with him!)
Good luck, Defdog2
