long bed quad to mega cab conversion

I see a few companies converting mega cabs into long beds and it is a nice conversion. I was thinking of checking the price on 2 rear doors, rockers, roof section, and seat and extending my current quad cab into a mega cab. I am not sure how much all the parts would be and this is only a thought but it may be a worthwile investment for someone that can do bodywork and have a mega cab on their current truck. Seems the frame extensions wouldn't be as long and wouldn't need to buy a new truck. Any thoughts? If the rear floorpan is too pricey I could fab one up and not look hillbilly. Or better yet find a totaled mega cab without much damage to the mid section and get all the parts from a donor truck.

There is a company in the Midwest(I think) that will add more doors to your Quad cab making it a 6 door. For all the money it would cost I think I'd just go that route....

A friend of mine was searching and searching for a good enough wrecked MegaCab to perform this swap- he gave up.

Graft the rear of a mega cab onto your quad cab for a Mega 6 door......

I really don't want to go that wild with 6 doors. And I don't know how to mold plastic for interior panels so I was wanting to go with a stock mega cab so I could get that stuff new. If I went "custom" I could just add inches behind the rear doors I have now to lengthen the cab but then I would need to fab some kind of interior panels. And if I do it I kinda wanted it to appear stock.

Besides the cab there are other differences, cab mounts, different fuel tank, etc... The only way to make it even remotely feasible would be to find a donor truck. I know you can buy complete cabs but I'm sure the cost would be sky high. We have had to replace several cabs at work because on the newer fords, the floors are breaking out and the seats falling through. Doesnt help that they are driven off road 100% of the time, but still I'm not impressed with them.

And the transfer case shifter in mega cabs is electronic only so you'll have to ditch the manual shifter. I think the reason behind that was all the air conditioning ducting and such for the back seats takes up a lot of space under the cab and there's no place for the linkage.

Just trade your truck in for a mega cab if you want one. Trying to convert to a mega cab sounds like a ton of money and work. Im sure it would be extremly difficult to get every thing right as well.

I already told my wife I want to do this. I can wait a couple years to find a wrecked one. Extend the frame and drop the whole **** cab on. A 6-door would be cool too though. Try parking that!

An old friend of mine's dad used to do this conversion, combining the cab of a 94-98.5 with that of a 98.5-02 I believe it was.

I agree with Tommy V, trade it in for a MegaCab. The transformation will be too expensive.

Also consider who will buy your truck if you want to re-sell.

I did see a quad that had the back extension of a mega added to it...that way you can purchase all the parts from the back of the door and still use your back of the cab. He did not stretch the frame...instead he put a mega cab dually bed on behind his cab extension...I did not get under the truck to see what the surgery was for the changes....I would imagine there where lots.
I have a mega cab long bed...It was 5 grand to have someone do it. Its been trouble free since I did it. You may want to find a mega cab and trade yours...then stretch if needed. This truck is exactly what we wanted. Only one draw back...look at the door sticker and weight ratings for the quad compared to the mega.
