With the type of limited slip in our trucks, if you jack the back end up with both tires off the ground and turn one tire forward, the other will turn the opposite way, just like a open diff. Only way to tell for sure is to pull the cover on the diff.

I Just installed a helical gear type limited slip into my 05 that came with out a limited slip and the truck preforms better in all those wet or slick conditions. Money well spent i think.

They unlock alright, into about 1,000 pieces. Check around with some chevy guys. They are a very weak locker.
The limited slip in these trucks is very strong. It just takes some torque to get it to engage. Its bias is a little high, probably do to the fact its made for a heavy truck. Trying to get it to engage in an empty truck is hard to do. Put 2,000 lbs in the bed and try it. World of difference.

I know the chevy half tons have a very weak locker, but I haven't heard of any 11.5 chevy lockers giving up. I know my old 06 dura could have one tire off the ground and the thing would still lock up solid, but do a burn out and you will start off with both spining, and at about 20 mph you would get a one wheel wonder. With my dodge, if one wheel gets light, just that one will spin. I'd much rather have a chevy locker, for off road anyway.

The dealer can give you a printout with your vin number, I sent an email to "customerassist@daimlerchrysler.com" and they gave me the low down. Send an email, they might give you a new email address to send correspondence to.
06+ trucks no longer have the quick glance info in the glove box like the 03-05's.
my 03 dodge 2500 once roasted both tires and fish tailed like a stunt car when I dropped the clutch after a senile old man crossed 4 lanes of traffic and brought everyone to a halt.
