If the lift pump starts rattling, becomes signicantly louder, it is time to replace it. It's not a bad idea to do it at 100K anyway.
The rattle of the lift pump will be significantly reduced in winter time because of the cooler temperature. If it is rattling in summer time where you can hear it some distance from your vehicle when the key is turned on, replace it.
If you don't, you'll end up stuck at the side of the road in Nowherenearnuthin', OK.
