Lift pump question (2003 Dodge 2500)
Does water in the fuel kill the lift pump? What are the symtoms of a failing lift pump? How hard are they to change? Should I be able to see the fuel enter the filter housing with the lid off when I hit the starter and let the lift pump run? Should I go with the same pump (there are some brand new ones for sale on Ebay) or go with the one that the dealers are selling, which they told me the new ones go in the tank now. My error codes are p2269 and p0628 which I have looked up and one is (Low pressure) and the other is (Water in the fuel). All my symptoms point to the lift pump, I have looked through these forums and that seems to be my problem. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

The 03-04 pumps are canister mounted (right behind the fuel filter) and have been known to fail. Hard starts, loss of power, Check engine Light, are all symptoms. Replace it with either the factory retrofit intank kit or install a high performance fuel system, like an Airdog, Fass, GDP walbro, or raptor kit. These will support more power if necessary and ultimately last longer on an otherwise stock truck. I like the Airdog for its size, water and air seperator, and LIFETIME WARRANTY!!!

As long as you are under 100k miles your warranty will cover the in tank retrofit at the dealer including parts and labor. That being said, it really isn't the best solution but it is way better than the filter housing mounted one you currently have that has failed.

Dale,
The 0628 code is the lift pump failure code. The pumps just fail and when I tore mine apart the brushes in the motor looked like the weak link. I don't think it's water, it's ther motor. But whatever the cause they are weak and will leave you stranded.
With an '03 I think the best thing is the Glacier Diesel Walbro setup. You have an excellent pickup tube in your tank now and can make the change without dropping the tank. With the Walbro, the pump will always be accesable if you need to ever replace it again. Mine has been in now for over 70,000 miles and it's been great.

LIft Pump
I replaced my lift pump on my 2003 and I still get the code 628. Before the truck would just stop running and after much chanking ti would start. Rune OK now. Any ideas? I replace with the factory pump from Geno's
