He's saying that the pump will not work if the lift pump fails. He's not saying that the CP3 will fail if the lift pump fails. 2 different scenarios.

If the lift pump is replaced the CP3 will work again. You don't have to replace both pumps

So how did the lift pump take out the injectors?

There is now a Dodge kit to put the pump in the tank. Tommygun (works at dodge dealer in St.Louis) on TDR offers them for aroun $230.

Yes, he was saying if you replace the lift pump the rest of the system still works, no harm done to the high pressure system. Again take it for what it's worth, I do not know for sure.

16000 miles and I'm on lift pump #3. the last failure couldn't have happened in a worse place. 300 miles from home in the middle of the mountains on a logging road. It made for an interesting evening!

I sure hope I'm close to town WHEN the next one goes...

Something else is going on with your truck.

Maybe your fuel source?

you know when im on some of those long trips im sorta afraid of some crap like that happening myself,

now if your cell Phone miraculously didnt work or was not in an area where it could work, you would be screwed!

Havent you noticed that noone stops for broke down people anymore? what has the world come to

I don't dispute there is something going wrong with my truck to be on the third lift pump. Since new, I have used Stanadyne every third tank and fill up only at high volume truck stops. I'm not sure what else I could do?

I use this truck for oilfield work and am in the middle of nowhere a lot. Fortunately the last time I had cell phone coverage. I'm sure happy to hear that dodge is doing something about the problem.

summitman and journier you guys have 04.5 truck which have a different lift pump, the thread starter was inquiring about 05 trucks which have their lift pump in the tank, yours are on the fuel filter on the engine.

EDIT:: ooppps my mistake, the thread starter was wondering about 600 and 610 engines. I know of no failures on the new intank design and if there is a failure on the 03-04.5's there is a tsb out to replace with the intank type. Sorry for the confusion.
