Lift Pump Problems with 600-610 motors?
Hi - I'm trying to see if there are folks out there that are having problems with their lift pumps on the 600 or 610 motors. Was there a change to the fuel delivery system between the 555 H.O. motors and the 600-610 motors? If so, what was the change? Just trying to get all of the information I can. Thanks....

Never had a problem out of my stock lift pump on my 04.5.
It is now just a cosmetic piece/decoration on the engine.
Now I run FASS right to the pump.
03-4.5 have the same lift pump that is mounted on the fuel filter.

Mine went out at 39,000 miles. A buddy's went out at around 40,000 miles. So, I don't know if that's a magic number or not. Personally, I think I was just running some bad fuel. I did read either on here or TDR that they redesigned the replacement lift pumps and from reading the post, I believe I have the new one. Will see how long it lasts.

The 05's have the lift pump in the fuel tank and is different than the previous year trucks. 05' have one design, 03-04 have their own design, 98.5-2002 have their own design, 12 valve have their own design.
I don't think there are enough 05's with enough miles on them yet to tell if this is the solution, but this design has to be better than any previous 24 valve designed lift pump. Electric pumps are designed to push fuel, not pull fuel ten feet+ and then push.

Bluebull is exactly right about the location of the pre 05' lift pumps. They are not designed to be pulling fuel from all the way from the tank to the engine. Plus they are a good 12"-18" higher than the fuel tank so they are pulling it up hill.
When I installed my Holley, the instructions specifically say to install the pump as close to the tank as possible and at or slightly below the bottom of the tank to take advantage of the siphoning effect.
They seemed to finally get things right with the 05's by putting it in the tank, but the volume and pressure still isn't there for doing any mods.

Mine died at 10,000 almost to the mile.
Took out three injectors with it.
How did the lift pump take out the injectors?
I don't see the relation between the lift pump failures and the failing of the rest of the high pressure system. It was very apparent with the VP44 failing if your lift pump failed. but I don't think the same is true for the common rail systems.

I was told by the deal (take it for what it's worth) that on the 05's if the lift pump fails the high pressure pump will not work and the engine will die. Something about the CP3 in the dodge trucks that do not have an internal pump in them. Like I said, take it for what it's worth coming from a dealer, some seem to know what they are talking about and some do not.
