Maybe because the ecm monitors the lift pump voltage . The new pumps might have a different resitance in the pump windings ...could find out now , but its 10 minutes to beer thirty.....if this turns into a recall, are there any bets if they recall the 98.5 to 02's ?

 

Has anyone had this done here in Canada yet ? A buddy of mine has had 3 lift pump failures in 90,000 km. He tows a lot of big trailers over the 13,000 lb range. I'm sure he should qualify for this mod. If it has been done here in Canada, at which dealers ? Also how have the internal tank pumps been holding up overall ? Thanks

 

Havnt seen any 05 pumps fail...in order to qualify the truck must have a failed lift pump. You cant get the older external pumps anymore.

 

Are you saying that the 2003-2004 lift pumps are not available?

 

there are 35 of them in Winipeg , but this is what the advanced notice says:

This Tech-Tip is being sent to all dealers to notify them that the engine mounted transfer pumps have been superseded by an in-tank fuel pump module conversion kit. The new in-tank fuel pump module conversion kits will be restricted for a short period of time and will require dealers to contact the Technical Hotline at 1-800-xxx-xxxxto have the kits released to them. The attached file is a copy of the instruction sheet that is supplied with the conversion kit. Technicians should be advised that the engine control modules (ECM's) must be flashed. Technicians can refer to Technical Service Bulletin # 18-017-05 located on DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT for further instructions (a copy of the Bulletin is attached for reference). There are two different kits available depending on the size of the fuel tank, the part and labour operation numbers are listed below:

You all need to go to small town dealerships for service...and sales , we're alot easier going !

 

2003, I doubt it. The fuel tank is not the problem. Not saying that we won't get into an arguement. But, there is no basis for them to say the vent mod caused a lift pump meltdown. At least they are getting smart about fixing them. Unless I missed any posts, I have not seen/heard of 05 owners having problems like those that have the conventional lift pump. All those posts about LP's dying has gotten me waiting for mine to die. I only got 17K on the truck, so who knows if I will see a conversion. Cool thing, I got 5 years or 100k to find out.

does anyone else find it odd that people from the big state north of the us use km for distances but us lbs for weights? i just think it's funny thats all...

 

I use km for distance and speed, I use feet and inches for short measurements, I tell temperature in celcius (0* is freezing, 21* is room temperature) I go by miles per gallon (not litres per 100km) I can tell large weight in pounds and small stuff in metric, fluid is measured in litres and mililitres (gas and oil mix).......

I guess I'm king of a........ half breed......

 

I hear the metric system is easier once you learn it, but my tired old brain just can't comprehend.

Here I sit with a brand new lift pump in the box for a spare & now their going to be obsolete.

 

Naw, you've just got a collector's edition on your hands now.

 

It's not obsolete until you get the conversion! Until then........

 

Is the filter mounted pump still available from Cummins?
