No, I figured for that price if it goes out I can replace it again and still be cheaper than an Airdog or FASS.

Go with the in-tank replacement... It puts the pump where it should be and has been proven to be a great pump.

My 03 is still ruining good and have not replaced the pump!! I do have a new pump under the seat that I got at GENO'S . I have always run Howe's Treat And have been using Super TECK TC-W 3 ever sense they went from 500 PPM to 15 PPM on the fuel I add 1Oz per gal of fuel. This is working good for me. So I am staying with the factory pump.

The in tank conversion may run you 1,200 to 1,400 if performed by a dealer.

Why not replace it now? Under your control/conditions? Carry the factory pump for your spare.....

If I recall, there are 3 torx capscrews holding it to the canister, there is an o-ring on the new pump that seals it to the canister, make sure the old one comes all the way out. When you go to install the new pump, lube the o-ring, then use a rocking motion to seat the pump into the canister, do not try and shove it straight in, you can easily damage the o-ring, then have a leak. As you are finnessing the pump in, you will feel it pop into place.

I would not want to do it on the side of the road, or in the dark, if I could avoid it.

I still run the factory pump too even though we could hear that it was not keeping up when my truck was on the dyno. Any other time it works fine though and keeps pressure right at 10psi. The canister mounted pump is easy to replace and doesn't cost a fortune. I keep a spare one in my tool bag just in case.

Turned out to be $833 and I'm letting them do it because I need the truck back fast. I'm hoping the in-tank pump will be good for the rest of the life of the truck. Too bad though, for the same money I could have had a nice frame mounted pump and filter setup if I'd planned ahead for this.

Local Diesel shop was doing this mod for the local dodge dealership, turned out the mod was a cheap generic electric frame mounted lift pump, and not an in tank mod. Hope your fortune is better.

Thanks for the warning.
Would be ironic since I argued with the service writer over the fuel filter charge... I told them that there's a spare under the back seat where I keep it would they use my spare and knock a few bucks off the (outrageous) bill. They said "no" arguing "warranty" as the reason. Yeah right... I gave up argument for a few bucks. I just need the truck now (sad since all summer it sat mostly and I could have done this all myself) so they've got me.
