03/04 Its mounted external at the fuel filter housing. The NEW update by Chrysler is a retro fit to the in-tank like 05s up.It IS covered 7/100 with a $100 deductible in years 6 and 7.Transfer pump or lift pump definitions is similar.Genos garage(look up web site)has factory external lift/transfer pumps at a good price or you have a choice of several aftermarket set ups or factory retro to in the tank.

You got ripped off. If they replaced the external lift pump, you could have gotten one from NAPA for less than $200 and installed it your self. Dodge is NOT supposed to install the external pumps anymore. They want $1200 to install the new and improved one in the tank ONLY.

To the original poster do you know if he put another one back on your fuel filter housing or into the tank?

If he did pay that for the filter mounted set up, I dont think he made it far enough to grab that accidentally dropped wrench on the garage floor...
Rock auto has lift pumps for 03/04 filter mounted for around 130 or so. Takes the better part of a 1/2 hr to replace. I believe napa carries this now as well. 1/2 that price would probably be acceptable.
If it was the intank switch its probably about right.
