Lift Pump

Lift Pump
Hey Guys,
First off let me say I don't work for or have any relationship with any of these companies other than a consumer.
I just wanted to give those "frugal" Shade Tree Mechanics a heads up. My 2004 Cummins just went out of warranty and the blasted lift pump started acting up. From reading threads I guess I was very lucky to get the 113K out of the original.
Here is where the problem starts. My truck just died on me the other night going home from work. It started but real rough. I got it home and started reading threads. Sure enough a p0628. I did all the troubleshooting I could without guages and tools. The trick seemed to either be that the pump cooled down or that I tapped on it a few times with the flashlight. Either way it seems to start just fine but I commute over 100 miles a day and just don't trust it.
Dodge's solution is to relocate the pump to the tank. The story I get is the heat and vibration from the motor along with the scientific fact that it is easier to push liquid through a 15 foot hose rather than suck it. The pumps fail regularly. My issue is this. Out of warranty and I live over 25 miles from the closest Five Star Dealer. Also anyone I call wants $1000 bucks to do the work non-warranty! As well as they will have the truck over a week. If your truck is still under warranty get the pump replaced! Somehow talk the Dealership into doing it now in warranty (100K from Cummins). The OEM pump is discontinued from Mopar and Cummins and allthough a much better solution FASS and Glasier are still up there in price compaired to the original pump. If you can find one.
Anyway back to the original thought. For those of us that cannot afford the $1000 Dealer or even the $500 Glacier solution. I found this!!!

Twenty minutes with the right tools and your good to go, at least till the pump fails again. Hopefully it will give you time to budget and plan a better solution. My only regret is that I actually found the pump here and paid the higher price. But hey, they had it in stock and guaranteed it to be here Thursday.

Good Luck!!!

Spend a bit more than the $225 and get the GDP Walbro through Lary here at DTR.
I put the GDP Walbro, GDP Big Line Kit, and the GDP Tank Vent mod on mine for about $550. The Walbro kit will set you back a little over $400 but then you only have to do it once.
