What is the normal life expectancy of the water pump? Mine is fine as far as I know........i've just considered replacing it as a preventative thing. Mine has 110K miles on it. Is this a silly question to ask? I've never replaced one on any vehicle.

I guess i'll replace my serpentine belt too when I do it. (whenever that is)

I think mine went out around 130k or so. Easiest wp I ever changed.

 

Mine when at 99k so it got replaced under the 100K warranty. I did the belt at the same time too.

 

220,000mi on my 97 and AFAIK it is original, its painted same color as the rest of the engine. Im doing the KDP fix and am going to replace it as part of PM. Ive done WP in other vehicles, around 85,000 to 199,000mi. some more than once.

 

I replaced mine at about 200,000 miles. The original was beginning to drip a bit. I replaced a broken tension pulley, belt and WP at the same time.

 

My 94 went 200k anyway before it went. As mentioned above the easiest water pump you will ever change, price was reasonable as well. Hats off to Cummins, great design.

 

55K. changed it out myself in 40 minutes vs the dealer...all day

mine went out on the 06 at about 93k. changed it on the side of the highway. only thing was the truck didnt have a belt diagram on it to put the belt back after it was off.

 

i think over 200000 is the norm...i'm still on the original at 215000

 

My .02.... The pump will not last as long as the older trucks. Not sure why, maybe different amount of tension on it by design of the belt or routing??, red coolant not lubricating as well as the green (I know.....I grasping)??..who knows. What I do know is that I've replaced more water pumps on the common rail trucks that ALL of the VE, P7100, VP44 equipped trucks combined. Water pump failures were unheard of....matter of fact we didn't even stock one until a few years ago.

 

Well mine went out around 100,000 miles then another time at 150,000.

 

Well I guess i'll just leave it alone until it needs replacing. I just hate to try to do it on the side of the road if I don't have to.

I guess I should just go by Cummins and buy a spare pump and keep it handy for the inevitable day. I already keep a spare serpentine belt.

2nd gens and earlier don't seem to ever die! Can't ever remember reading about a problem... and this is confirmed by 'J BODY's post.
