Leveling Kit 'material' & Options Identification
Recently purchased a used 05' 2500. I am a 'first time' Ram owner & converted from a Power Stroke (don't get me started). This site has been an extremely useful source & got a lot of 'pre purchase' questions answered.
Pertaining to 2" leveling kits, there are both steel & urethane kits available. Opinions &/or experiences with either? The truck currently has 295/70/17's on it & has no tire clearance or rubbing issues. Just looking to do away with the factory raked stance.
As an expert in nothing, I did believe manufacturers applied a decal of such which labeled/identified the options the manufacturer equipped the vehicle with (i.e. body color, interior options, axle gear ratio, etc). I have looked in the traditional places (under hood, in engine compartment, radiator support, glove box) for this decal, in an effort to identify specific options my truck was equipped with. I have yet to locate it. Are these not applied for 2005 model trucks?; Maybe looking in the wrong place?; Previous owner decided to remove it?
PLEASE let me learn about my new truck!!
Thanks for any assistance.

Welcome to the site!
In order to get a "Build Sheet",stop by your local Dodge dealer and provide them with the 17 digit vin number from your truck. They can print out a detailed build sheet with each option your truck has.
You can also try www.dodge.com and click on the "For Owners" area. At that point go to the "About my Vehicle" area and fill in the questions asked about your vehicle. This will provide you with any updates and information regarding recalls and TSB's associated with the vehicle.

for your leveling kit questions, either or is a good choice. I went with poly because of enviromental resistance. No matter how good a powder coat, line-x, stainless etc... metal will find a way to rust.

I never considered the 'corrosion' factor. Never seen urethane rust!! Great point!!

Do you have to bring your own Vaseline or do they provide that?

I keep saying I'm going to level my truck just lazy I guess. Anyway if I were going to do it I'd go with springs and shocks from KORE or Carli or Thuren or Lorenz. I can't see getting the truck up higher and not improving the ride.
It's gonna cost you more but I think its worth it.

Depends on why he wants to level it.
If he can live with the ride (like me) and only wants to get more room for bigger tires then get spacers, metal ones are better I think.
If he wants to address the ride get a Carli system, but it's gonna cost a lot more.
Keep in mind no matter which way you go you're axle will get pulled over to the drivers side, it will be off-center, to fix it you need an adjustable track bar.
Also your axle will get pulled back, your tires will be closer to your fenders which could cause problems depepnding what tires and wheels you put on.
Also longer shocks are a good idea.
