leaking CP3 pump
#2
Hey sawboy. Just got mine replaced last week. Mine was leaving drips on the driveway. I looked at the old one when the tech was finished, and it looks like there is a seal where the pump meets the mounting plate, which failed. My dealer actually had one in stock . Took about two hours, no problems.

I had the pump replaced one year ago at Christmas time for the exact same symptoms you are describing. About two weeks ago I noticed a drip in my driveway again. Sure enough the very bottom of the pump is wet with fuel. It dripped once more after I wiped it off and none since. Both times it dripped it was very cold outside, approximately 5 degrees F. I wondered the same thing about the cold temperatures and the drip. It has warmed up considerably here since the last drip. It was 61 degrees F yesterday. I was just going to keep an eye on it before taking it back in. Does anyone know if the pump is covered under the Cummins warranty or just the 3 year 36,000 DC warranty? I only have about 8 thousand miles left on the basic DC warranty.

So maybe alittle fuel leak is OK? I didn't even notice it till the first cold snap in November. I kept smelling fuel when i had the hood open. After christmas I was off and it was really cold so I crawled up under and saw the wet area. No drips though, just wet. You can see where it has been wet and is wet on the wire loom at the cam sensor area. No call from dealer yet! Prob. get the dreaded no problem found....................

Mine didn't start to leak until early December. Mabye it is cold weather related. I'm guessing it would have to be on the low pressure side. As long as it doesn't suck any air I guess it would be ok. Although my leak seemed to get worse.

The weather has been very warm latley. Had truck to dealer for 2 days. They cleaned everything up real good and ran it also. No leaks. I told them it only did it when very cold. So they ordered a new pump for it. Will take back later for install under warranty. Is this waht you guys are seeing as well??

When I had it in for the pump replacement the tech bent the condensor fins all to heck, scratched the sport bumper from standing on it, broke the fan shroud when he slipped resulting in a scratched fender and broke the radiator when he replaced the shroud. The radiator then had to be replaced. The good news was the service manager got personally involved when the radiator was replaced and all went well. As you can tell, I am a little hesitant to take the truck in for any service unless it is absolutely necessary.

Are you suggesting I let it go and not replace it? I too fell the same as you regarding taking something in for warranty. I do have a gaurd on my condensor however!. The shop I deal with has 1 Diesel tech. he is an older guy and seams pretty concerned about good service. Some of the other guys are not. We do purchase new vehicles often from this dealer so I know that helps alittle also.

make sure you document with pictures next time. I have seen this failure before hot and cold. It may be worse cold, but it will get worse no matter what.
you should not wait to fix any fuel leak for obvious reasons.
