Question leaking CP3!

So I get home tonight after cumming home from the folks house and I pull in the drive and go to plug in the truck because it’s so **** cold here and I can smell raw diesel fuel. So I check under the hood and of all the other places this leak could be coming from, it just happens to be the CP3. So it’s just a little wet underneath and looks as if it’s coming from the thing that looks like it has heat sinks on the back.

My question is I have only 73,000 mi on it and I am the original owner, and in the warranty book it says that this item is covered under Cummins 5yr 100,000mi warranty. Is this the case and has anyone had any problems with dealer doing work. Also is there an easy fix here, can something just be loose and if so what are those items?

Thats pretty normal for cold weather and the CP-3. Unless it is just pouirng out in a stream don't worry too much.

I had one replace dunder warranty th efirst winter I had my truck, supposed to be updated CP-3 and all. It leaked the next winter and stopped when things warmed up. Been that way 3 years and 150k with no issues.

Funny thing bud, mine too. Had it at the dealer for 2 days and they can't find the leak. I really don't enjoy cleaning up diesel off my shop floor and the underside of my truck and off the diff cover, etc!! They say it's "normal" to leak when it's cold??? I asked them if it was normal for their bathtub to leak in their house. No response....

I'm so frustrated so I'm trying a different dealer. Leaking fuel is a fire hazard and I think should be a no brainer. Can we sue the dealer if our truck starts on fire. Same dealer told me I didn't have a injector issue. I tested them myself and found #6 to be faulty. Changed it myself. Seems like they don't want to spend any money. I just want this pump to stop leaking. Cheap crap.......................

That's the gearcase pump assembly on the back of the CP3 that is leaking. It has an o-ring gasket that looks like a large "O" with two small "o"'s on either end.

The gearcase pump is connected to the main CP3 body by four torx screws. If you remove the driver's side inner fender(8 screws), they are easier to access. They may just need to be snugged down. Don't get carried away and snap one off, someone may have the torque specs, can't be much, probably "inch pounds".

Here's a thread you can follow for pictures, it does not show the o-ring, but it shows where it sits in the gearcase pump.

Well after thinking about it, if it leaks its broken and I am going to make an appointment to get truck in and get it replaced. Nothing should leak on any piece of machinery, something leaked on the shuttle and it exploded.

You got it!!! Especially a flammable liquid. If it leaks, it can't be good.

Had mine replaced at 22,000 miles. No leaky since. Supposedly they had a bad batch with seal issues.

If your dealer did that with the mods you have then you maybe should play the tables some and see if your luck holds.
