lamp out and chime, and steering issues.
anyone ever had the "lamp out" indicator come on, and the chime as well? only to find that there are NO lamps out?? This indicator comes on sparaticly, it almost seems like a short, it comes on a LOT when I am on a bumpy gravel road, and goes away as soon as I hit the brakes. it makes me wonder if its related to the tail lights? does anyone know what the lamp out covers? I noticed I dont have license plate lights anymore...but the intermittent chiming and flashing seems odd.
it did just come back from the shop after some extensive front end work, maybe they messed with something?
now for the steering. like I said above, it came back from the shop, ujoints, balljoints, and some misc work. they alligned it. but now the steering is really wierd. if I steer slightly to the left or right, lets say, to change from one lane to another, then I straighten the steering wheel, the actual wheels stay pointed to the left or right, so the truck keeps steering. whats up with that?
I used to have alot of faith in this shop, but after getting it back am starting to wonder whats up.

I would bet my paycheck on the lamp out being your taillights. The bulbs don't sit in their seats good. Try some dielectric grease on them and if that doesn't work, change them out one by one till the chime goes away.
Don't know about your steering issue. A friends ford does that, but they cant figure it out.

My 04.5 did the lamp out and chime a few weeks ago and it was telling me that a bulb was about to go out. I would bet a dollar to a doughnut that one of your tail lights will be out in a week or so. Annoying but kinda cool.

Also check the filiment wire inside the bulbs to be sure it doesn't have a small break in it. I had the same lamp out/chime problem a while back. Turned out that the little filliment wire in the bulb would make contact while sitting still and appeared to work ok. As soon as I would drive, the wire would loose contact and reconnect causing the lamp out/chime to come on and off.
