Let it cool then pull the exhaust manifold away from the head just an inch our so and you will see which injector is stuck open. That cyl. will be wetter then the rest.
Good luck.,

That sounds like a better idea than feeling for it. They do get hot quick..

The truck is on its way to the dealer to be checked out, it was still covered under the 7yr/100k engine warranty. Dealer syas he thinks it is an injector, but he is hesitant to commit to a diagnosis without first seeing the truck and having a peek.

Has anyone been hasseled by their dealer for having a boost and EGT gauge? Only other mod I have is a Magnaflow 4" exhaust.

Thanks for all they replies they were very informative and helpful, I will be sure to report back with the diagnosis from the Dealer.

Just heard from the dealership. Failed Injector was the cause of the knocking/smoke issue, the tech said the injector was stuck wide open, they are installing a new injector tommorow morning and will reassemble and run the engine to check for damage due to overfueling.

On a side note, should I be concerned they are only replacing 1 injector? Is there anything I can do to prevent another injector failure? I currently change fuel filters every 8k, any other things I can do to minimize the chance of failure? Pricing injectors has me a little gun shy should this happen outside of warranty.

Unfortunatly Dodge only chooses to replace the failed injector. Usually another will fail within a few months. I think that Dodge's policy is to replace all only if 3 or more are bad. Maybe you can convince your dealer that others are causing you problems where thay might get all replaced? Just a thought and might apply only if you are friendly with your local dealer......

Crap, thats what I was afraid of. I will call the dealer in the morning and speak with the service advisor, as she mentioned a different course of action under warranty if the truck was modified. I will have to talk with her and express my concerns. Really haven't been to the dealer for things other than trans filters, coolant flush, that sort of thing. I buy filters in Bulk through my father who is a Chrysler tech and up to this point the truck has been trouble free.

I had one fail at 97,500 miles, repaired under warrantee. I'm still waiting for the next one to fail. I'm at 150,000 now. I think I'll pull them soon and get some F1 tips.
