Thats one of the problems with the K&N filters, people clean them TOO much. Do not clean it unless it needs it, not if it looks dirty, only if i needs it by checking your air filter gauge on the intake pipe.

The K&N filter filters better once it gets dirty,(to a certain extent) thats the way they are made, read the side of the box on one, tells you to clean and re-oil every 50,000 miles.

Crysler does not recomend them, but that does not mean they are banned from use, I have never heard of a warrenty being voided for a DROP IN replacement filter, if there were such nonsense I don't think K&N would be in bussiness. (fram too with thier oil filters for that matter) If it were the case than the BHAF would definalty void it also. Anything not stock they won't recomend.

I run a K&N and have had no problems, and a lot of others I know have for years with zero air filter problems, Just clean and oil when it NEEDS it and you will be golden. a "cleaning/oiling kit" should last you forever.

Yes, BHAF will void it too.

Just because you never heard of someone having their warrantied voided for ANY (kn, airraid, whoever) does not mean it never happens.

I'm not sayin they are better or worse. Just that it gives more power to the dealer and less to you. Is it worth the performance benefit at that point(if there really is any)?

IMHO, no.

IMHO, no.

Has your warranty been voided because of one? If not then just because you heard of their warranty being voided from one does not mean it happens.

I have had the trucks at the dealer with them on and never a word said. Secondly a K&N and ect are the same as buying a fram or ect paper filter and putting it in and it not voiding your warranty. Why? because there is a law that says they cannot. Same with using a K&N oil filter. Can they void your warrnaty just because of a name? NO.

Just buy what you want and go down the road, people WAY over think things they want to do. If you have an uptight dealership then just take out/off your filter, chip, module, ect....... and put it back to factory before you take it in. I have never had my dealership say one word to me about the mods I make on my trucks.

Do a search on here or other diesel related forums and you will read about the warranties being voided. Just because one dealer here and there doesn't say anything does not mean they all don't.

What's the best and safest way to get more air to the turbo then?

I had a K&N on the old truck but I didn't realize there was that much controversy on them.

Unless you are planning on going over 400hp, you are better off using the money to buy extra stock filters and just change them more often.

If you are going over 400hp, you most likely don't care about the warranty anyway and you can run whatever system you like.

I ran one for approx 45k. I had an oil analysis done at every oil change but one. Every oil analysis was way within spec. I only cleaned, reoiled mine once during that time. 50K just seemed too long of a period when driving alot of dusty roads.

It would be hard pressed for me to believe a dealership cancelled a warranty due to a k&N air filter. That would mean they could cancel your warranty if you run a k&N oil filter. Unless I see it on paper saying" your warranty is voided due to use of K&N air filter" on a dealership letterhead with a president signature, i will not believe it.

Then I say attorney time, and get ready to retire.

Funny I came accross this today... I was at the dealer for somthing else and in conversation he mentioned "What ever you do don't run a K&N filter" sounds like the dealers have been told about them specifically to me...

I don't run a K&N(Airaid) but local dealers, mine included actually sell them at the dealership.

I wasn't in a big hurry to buy a K&N for my 06 but I noticed my filter minder was being suck down about half way or more. My truck has 2k on it and if a brand new air filter is doing this it can't be good, after I placed a K&N in the truck my filter minder hasn't moved at all.
